Hi Everybody! I need help, Today I have noticed that my blue tang has ICH, I saw a couple of white dots in his body in the black part of the fish.. also in his belly has a little discoloration (not that much but is getting white) I went to a big fish store and they recommended me HERBATANA, I did start the treatment today. Currently in my FWLRO 55 gallon tank: 2 Little clowns, 1 Cardinal, 1 Blue Tang(the one is sick) 1 yellow tang(that I am returning to the pet store tmrrw because is very aggressive with the blue tang, and I guess that's why the blue one got sick) 1 diamond gobby and 4 snails and 4 red hermit crabs. NO CORALS. What have you heard about HERBATANA? The girl in store told me is one of the Best Med for ICH. Any advise? Please. The Blue Tang is eating well (very good)
Also I have checked my water levels and they are kind of high: Ammonia between 0.25 and 0.50, Nitrite 0.25, Nitrate between 5 and 10, ph:8.2
I will do a water change tomorrow.. to lower the levels.. also I did add today NITE-OUT II Nitrifying Bacteria.. to help reduce the levels. (The levels were perfect on Wednesday but today they are kind of high) Salinity perfect, Temperature: 80.
Also I did turn off the skimmer.. Do I have to do anything with the filtration? I have a Canister and a hang on filter.

P.D. I can not return Dori for now (The Blue Tang, even though I know everything about the size of the tank. The pet store wont accept it because of the ICH, so I have to try to cure her; she still very small like 2.5 to 3 inches)

There are only 3 cures for ich.

-copper
-hyposalinity
-the tank change/swap method

Read the sticky! :) Herbatana or whatever won't work.

It looks like your tank is still cycling and is unsuited for Tangs of any size, I would tank them both back.

Yea many of us mentioned in the OPs other thread that the tank is not suitable for any tangs.

Also katilica you should read the stickys. It sounds like you are getting a lot of bad advice all around from your local fish store.

Um Thanks... I guess I am trying to bring them back both tmorrw. And about the bad advise, Yes I guess I am getting bad advise. You just believe that if you go to a specialized fish store they will advise you correctly. But it seems they are just trying to sell merch.

Hang in there you will get it all worked out. Try and find new homes for the tangs. Then give your system some time to settle in with the fish you have in there. There is a ton of good info on this site so just read read read. There has been many times I have gone to a LFS and asked questions about fish but I never buy unless I do my own research.

Thanks Lorenz725, I am going today after work to return the yellow one(Hopefully the will sell it to someone with a tank big enough). In the midtime I have to cure Dori(from nemo), and then bring it back.

The only way to cure the blue tang is to put it into a QT and either do hyposalinity or run copper. I use cupramine (copper) as it seems to be gentler on fish. You need cupramine as well as a copper test kit.

Excellent advice. But do consider the tank transfer method (stickie provided and detailed write up in my blog). Requires a bit more equipment but is an excellent method.

I have used herbtanna in my tank about 5 mths ago (250gal) when my 2 blue hippo tangs got ich, possibly when my powder brown and sailfin tangs were tormenting them. The dosage required per/bottle would of lasted me about 3-4 days and i would of had to run that for about 14 days or until ich is gone, then followed by water changes. That would of costed me allot................$$$$$$$$$. Catching them was also out of the question because of the amount of live rock and coral i had..................... so i did the next best thing and what my LFS advised me to do. I fed my fish like crazy with spectrum garlic pellets soaked in vita-chem. I would feed them like crazy. My skimmer was working overtime for that 10 days. What i read is the garlic builds and strengthens their immune system and they got better........ they are actually fat now. LOL.
About 3wks ago i bought home a royal gramma and 2 days after it showed signs of ich and was later gone about 3 days after. None of the other 20+ fish in the tank showed any signs whatsoever. Spectrum garlic pellets is the main source of food that i give my fish other than nori and mysis shrimp soaked in the vitamins. Thats my little 2cents

There is no in-tank cure for ich in a tank that contains inverts.
Info on ich

I tried using Kordons Ick Attack for 3-4 weeks which did absolutely nothing at all. Then I tried Kents RXP and my ich was gone a few days later and hasn't ever been back -and that was months ago. Myself I would highly recommend the RXP.
