Blue Tang With Ich

Romaine is good, yes Much better than Iceburg.

It can sometimes take a day or two for them to find it.

Update

So hes not doing too good. Looks like the ich or whatever the few white dots were cleared up as far as I can tell....although I can't get a real good look at him. The thing is that he's just laying on his side on the bottom of the tank and isn't moving much. He also has no interest in eating anything. The past few days he would go for the frozen shrimp and eat quite a few. Now nothing. I kinda gently poked him and he can only swim on his side for the most part. I tried to flip him over and see if there was anything wrong with his other side and he looks ok. Just have no idea why hes not moving and only swimming on his side when he does swim. I just don't know if I should continue treatment and make this guy suffer any longer. I think its only a matter of time but i'm no expert.

Any ideas??

Any update on your Tang? Did he get better?

So I apologize for not updating sooner. No excuse. My tang is still alive in the QT. He is doing better. The white spots appear to be gone. He is eating a little seaweed which I put on a rock daily. He swims around a little bit but not all too much. For the most part he hangs out in the back corner bottom behind the heater and air stone. If i'm not in the room and happen to sneak in sometimes I will see him swimming around a little bit. Once he sees me he goes back to his corner. Yesterday I noticed what appears to be a cut on the side of his nose. I'm not sure if it is a cut possibly from the rock where I have the seaweed banded to, or if its a parasite. I started another treatment of prazipro last night just in case. I'm hoping that it clears up. I just don't know if I should wait until he starts swimming around regularly with me in the room (if that will ever happen) before I move him to my DT or not. I mean if he's terrified in just a 10 gallon all by himself how will he be in a 60 gallon with 2 other fish.

Thanks again for your help and once again sorry for not updating sooner.

As long as you are getting him seaweed you might also try a bit of frozen Mysis. Actuall I think even hiding in the back is ok. Stop by your local hardware and get him a couple pieces of PVC 1.5 or 2.0 inch elbow, couplings or 45's to hide in. The small size will be a little stressful. All fish like something to hide in and the pvc works well in the QT. I also have 2 sets for doing TTM.

Gary - I was actually feeding him the mysis and he was eating it however someone mentioned that theres no nutritional value in the mysis and he needs the algae. I did feed him some mysis today and he ate. I do have two pvc pieces in there and sometimes he will go in there and hang out. Mostly likes to hang in the back by the heater and air stone. Guess he feels more secure there. I'm just wondering how much longer I should keep him in the QT. The last transfer of TTM was on 8/7. What do you think?

Actually I would stick with Mysis...high protein and fatty acids...and mysis has more nutritional value than Brine Shrimp....the frozen food I feed my tank is P.E. Mysis.....my fish love it.....I also throw some New Life Spectrum pellets in there once a day also....you might try those too...plus the seaweed sheets.....like you have been doing. I am glad he/she is still hanging in there! You are doing a great job taking care of your fish! Keep us posted!

I may be who you are referring to regarding the nutritional value of Mysis, but it wasn't Mysis I referred to , but brine shrimp.

Good job on having a QT in the first place! If it's ich, it won't just go away in all likelihood. You want to eliminate any chance of disease and not introduce it into your display tank as well. Check out the fish disease forum on RC, lots of info there. Good luck!
