Blue Tuxedo Urchin

I just ordered a blue tuxedo urchin through my LFS. I have not had an urchin yet so im not to sure as what to expect with its behavior.. will it mess with my anemone? or what about my green start polyps?? my LFS said no but i was wanting a second opinion.

It'll pick any loose bits up and carry them around. It'll leave the anemone alone, but it'll grab any loose polyps to use for shade. Given that they're green star polyps, that shouldn't be much of an issue. Giving it shells and bits of rubble can minimize the number of polyps grabbed, it'll take those instead.
Good idea getting a second opinion!

Somehow I found this article very interesting... and I hate reading......

The polyps are small, they were a tiny piece that broke off of someones frag. they have grown to maybe and inch and it has fell into a crack where i feel is protecting it anyways

If they're clinging on well and the urchin can't reach them, they'll be fine. If not, you may have to steal them back a couple of times. He won't eat them or anything, he'll just carry them.

Mine doesn't run into any corals to hijack anything other than rocks and snails for camo or bother the BTA's.

Great cleaner

Mine only picks up rubble, sand, tv remotes, wallets, and occasionally hermit crabs. Bryopsis was used too for deco when I had it. They tend to go for finer, loose material since they really can't "pull" or "rip" things off surfaces. Pretty much anything unachored can be carried around. (No joke, mine carried around a critter container lid once! I ignored it for the laughs but he eventually dropped it the next day.)

yeah, i used to blame the dogs for hiding the remote till i once found my urchin packing it around.

sometimes they carry a few zoas.

when they're going out for an evening on the town, they wear a frag hat.

lectures don't do any good. sending him to his room doesn't do any good. threats don't do any good.

Somebody needs to give theirs one of those little toothpick swords. Then we need pictures, especially if you can also get him to use a limpet shell as a helmet or a shield.
