Howdy knute3213, I would be concerned with the dyes and the glues that actually hold the filter media together. A/C filter media is not designed to be submerged into water unless it is for evaporative coolers- which brings me back to the glues and dyes used in the manufactiure of said media. I would not recommend using it for anything but it's intended use. Spend a couple of bucks and buy some filter media designed especially for filtration of aquariums. Welcome to Reef Central!! TinMan
I agree, the glues are a problem and they do break down in freshwater. In an A/C system they can get wet and still somewhat hold together, but they are not fully submerged in water.
