blue & white A/C filter

My work uses the blue and white A/C filter. It comes in big rolls. I was wandering how to tell if it is safe for the tank. Thanks

Howdy knute3213, I would be concerned with the dyes and the glues that actually hold the filter media together. A/C filter media is not designed to be submerged into water unless it is for evaporative coolers- which brings me back to the glues and dyes used in the manufactiure of said media. I would not recommend using it for anything but it's intended use. Spend a couple of bucks and buy some filter media designed especially for filtration of aquariums. Welcome to Reef Central!! I agree, the glues are a problem and they do break down in freshwater. In an A/C system they can get wet and still somewhat hold together, but they are not fully submerged in water.

There are sellers on ebay that sell the proper filter media in large quantities for cheap. Check ebay.
