i got some blue zoanthids from reeftopia about 2 weeks ago, and they have not opened yet. it looked like for a little while in the middle, i could see a little bit of skirt, but not anymore. one of the polyps withered away and i saw bristleworms eating it(not accusing him as killing it) anyway, i was wondering if i should do a lugols dip or something. the colony doesnt look too hot.

You can put them on frag racks to get them away from predators.

What conditions were they kept under before you purchased them?

Did you quarantine hem?

Did you dip them. If so, in what and for how long?

Was it a fresh cut frag just before it was shipped?

List every single parameter you can check?

Is anything else affected in your tank?

What type of lighting were they under from the vendor in contrast to your tank?

Did you light acclimate with your actinics on only for the first full photoperiod?

Did you remove it and do the sniff test? If it's extremely foul, like sour feet and burnt cabbage, LOL, sorry, then they are gone.

I place all new arrivals low, alone and in current.

I have never had a polyp take that long to open. There's a reason, you just have to find it.

Keep us posted as I really hope they come around for you my friend.

You are not alone. I purchase some of the blue zoanthids from reeftopia as well. When I first got them they were opening nicely and then began were they were barely opening. Even after I started dosing VC they tried to open but not fully. After close inspection I found that there are hydroids growing under the polyps which I suspect were irritating the zoas. I have manually picked off as much of the hydroids as I could and now I'm seeing better opening. HTH
