Bluestriped Clowns

I bought a mated pair of Bluestriped Clowns from my LFS. The lady told me her other mated pair reproduces on average every 2 1/2 weeks to 3 weeks. Should I expect a lot of baby clowns? What should I do with them if they start overcrowding my tank?

Chrysopterus should probably be put into quarantine for a few weeks. They are notorious brooklynella magnets. They can't be treated in a reef tank and once they are in there, they are difficult to capture for removal to the QT tank.

I don't know a whole lot of people who have been successful raising chrysoterus fry. CB chysopterus are in pretty high demand because WC fish are initially so fragile. If Mike was feeding them to his Oscar, he was throwing away money at about $10 a pop wholesale, probably about $40-$50 a pop retail.

Perkins, I thought you were kidding with your first post, but in case you weren't...

When clownfish reproduce, their eggs hatch into tiny fish larvae that are so small they are difficult to see unless you know to look for them. They look like tiny slivers of glass. Unless you are prepared to care for them (with a separate tank, cultures of live plankton to feed, etc) not a single larvae will survive to the point that they metamorphose into babies - you will never even see them (particularly because they hatch at night).

I think I will get another tank going as a breeder, because these guys are just too cool to have only two. I have a pink macroalgae that they are hosting. They are funny too, on the sand outside of the macroalgae, they just dug a crater haha... I'm going to have to re-sandscape haha.

Like others have said A chrysopterus is very fragile at first. Be prepared to QT them and treat them for Brook. Did you get the white tail or orange tailed variety?

From my experience the orange tailed are slightly more robust. Good luck with them lets see some pictures of them.
