Bluethroat Pair Pictures

I've had my male bluethroat for about a year, and finally found a female!

I was expecting some aggression, but there was none. The female has been out and about with the crowd, no hiding so far.

Nice lookin male but frankly I wouldn't have bothered addin a female there's just no beauty to the females imo

nice looking triggers! what size tank are they in? Did the blue throat pair accept food initially or did it take a few days?

They are in a 72" 125.

She was eating a couple of hours after acclimation. Mysis, auto feeder hasn't fed yet today but I doubt she takes the pellets right away.

My niger and male bluethroat started sparring after I added the female bluethroat. But it appears they've worked things out. They usually fight over the sme cave, but around lights out the Indian trigger goes alpha and kicks them both out.

I bet the Indian trigger does go alpha. I am having a problem with my male blue throat eating. The weird thing is he was out and swimming the moment i put him in the tank and only hides when i actually put my arm in the tank. His other tank mates show no signs of aggression but he still will not eat. I tried PE mysis, 2 other brands of mysis, plankton, chopped clam, clam in a shell, NLS Thera A, formula 1 pellets, silversides, live brine, and ghost shrimp. The only thing he ate was ghost shrimp and it was only 1 of the 10 that was added. He seems a little interested in the food but taste 1 piece and spits it out during each feeding. Do you have any idea whats going on? Hes no where near shy and does not hide even when lights are out.

How long have you had him?

It's not normal for triggers to be out and about when the lights are off, especially bluethroats. Does he have a hiding place where he can completely conceal himself? It usually isn't that difficult to get triggers to eat.

My autofeeder dumped in its mixture of NLS and Formula 2 pellets and the female BT ate a handful, so that's good.

He does go and hide in a cave a little after lights are out. The other fish goes into caves as soon as the light are turned off. I had him for almost a week now. This is the first trigger and or fish that i could not get to eat. Its frustrating. My niger ate within minutes of being introduced into the tank as well as all my other fish. This one seems some weird. If he was hiding in the cave i would not be worried as much because that mean he could be shy, but he is in the open swimming and acting like a normal fish. He is still fat and his color is still rich.

well, i was going thru my freezer and noticed that i had some jumbo mysis. i decided to try them and he went crazy. He gobbled up at least 7 pieces and then stretched his stomach and trigger. I am so happy because this fish has great personality. I guess he thought the jumbo mysis was ghost shrimp. I might purchase some krill and see if he likes those.

Good news, now that you found what he likes feed that heavily for a couple of weeks. If he hasn't been eating he needs the calories more than anything else.

I like the mix of fish in this tank, the triggers lazily paddle back and forth and use the top half of the tank while the tangs race around the bottom half.

What's funny is that the harlequin tusk can't ever seem to get out of the way of the other fish, he has no plan and just gets ran over constantly.

Got home from work and it looks like the male bluethroat and niger really tore each other up today. Fighting over the new girl?

They are ignoring each other now, hopefully one of them "won" and they can move past this. I'd hate to have to remove one.
