Boiled Crab

Poor Oz the Emerald crab! The heater on my 5 gal. went haywire during the night and stayed on, even though it was on the lowest setting, to heat the water to 88F (or more, the thermometer only registers to that).

I found Oz floating and when I put my hand in to remove him it felt like bath tub water. However; Demon, the Peppermint Shrimp from Heck and 5 snails seem to have tolerated the Spa day just fine.

Lesson learned....don't buy cheap Tetra heaters from Wally.

Nah, the lesson is to have a temperature controller... ;) Even the more expensive heaters get stuck on... :D

Our titanium heater at the store is proof of that. Our heater in the live rock tank at the store went bad, and sent an electric current through the water. I flooded the tank trying to top it off and I stuck my hand in their and got shocked. It was probably the most pain I have felt in years lol.

Janie,

A little salt and butter should fix that problem up right. ;)

And the lesson there is always use a GFCI. :)

Stray voltage and Saltwater are fun... ;)

I've been shocked a few times... Maybe that's whats wrong with me... :p

I touched a hot heater too-- that hurt. I think my next thread is going to out do yours.
you drained your tank with out unplugging the heater didn't ya lol been there done that :) saltwater conducts voltage much better than fresh which reminds me I need to hook up my grounding probe

Hehehe..it's moments like that when you wish you spent that 15 bucks on a grounding rod, and spent the money for the electrician to put in GFCI. lol

sorry, janie, dang...seems to be a rash of bad luck lately.

we left to go camping friday morning and just got back. i was starting to get nervous that the pump was going to be running dry, but all is well here so far...even the new bandoon blenny (thanks matt, he's way cool!)

maybe give oz to kim...she can feed it to the mantis. :)
