Boiling water kills aptasia?

Hey so I have a singular aptasia in my tank. Fairly small. I read just squirting it with boiling water will work. Is this true? Or do I need aptasia X?

Ideally, you inject it with boiling water. I tried AiptasiaX a number of times; I never got rid of them but it would stunt them for a while.

When you say inject you mean physically puncture and inject. I have diabetic syringes that should work?

So I just injected it with boiling water...it shriveled up but also released a bunch of white stringy stuff....is this bad news bears? I sucked up as much as I could.

Aiptasia X has worked for me. Just pulled out the kit and knocked one down yesterday

I followed the youtube video just last week with a slight mod. Had two small bunches in my 60 gal cube. With a metal meat injector filled with boiling water I got real close and blasted it until it shriveled up. Then with a turkey baster sucked it right off the rock. The other one was on the glass. Did the same thing but when I tried to suck it up it kinda fell apart a little and the base was stuck to the glass. Within the next few days whatever remains there were either fell off the glass or were served to my snails. As of now no trace. I picked up a bottle of Aiptasia X but will probably use the boiling water method if I have any return visitors. Would rather not add chemicals unless needed.

use a non metal syringe and douse it in boiling water. you can get them at CVS or walmart. puncturing them could cause them to release spores, which would make your problem worse.

good luck!

Just use the turkey baster, fill it with boiling water, aim it at the target and fully squeeze the bulb and hold it while the aiptaisia shrivels then, when it is nuked, release the hold on the bulb and you will suck up its remains.
It is best to do this with all of your pumps switched off.

Just my 2 cents - purchased aptasia X and love it. I've had some other pesky anemone-type critters, and take great joy in giving them what they think is a treat, only to watch them die a painful death.

For me it has always knocked them out for about a week and then they come back. Getting 'em right in the mouth is tough. Cant say I've never killed one with the stuff but I've wounded way more than I've killed.

I do not advocate using any chemical in my system that I don't absolutely need to use.

Boiling water in a syringe has been my one and only aiptasia killer for over 25 years. It is 100% effective 100% of the time, at least IME. Just get the tip of the syringe as close to it as you can and cook it with about 10ml of the hottest water you can use. If it is nestled between creatures that I don't want to harm I use a 18g blunt needle to make it that much more exact.

Why not a metal syringe?

For the limited time it would be in the tank, a metal syringe would be fine, although it may transfer the heat from the water inside quicker than a plastic one would and therefore be less effective.

The metal syringe I used was for injecting marinade into meats. It holds about 6-7oz of liquid. I filled that thing up with boiling water and blasted the sucker. It was my first time doing it so wasn't exactly sure how to do it. All I know is that I wanted to make sure he was fried. So far so good. After reading this thread it seems I used way too much water than needed. Other thing was that the syringe got real hot. Anyways so far no sign of return thus far. Keeping my fingers crossed.
