Bonsai Tree inspired Aquascape

hey crazy4acros - i'm running a pair of dual 400W pendants now... wondering what kind of chiller you run and how loud it is. my rimless is 60 x 40 x 20 -- thanks for the inspiration and any gear info!

stunning

stunning

Hay.....Stunning as always. I am just about to start on my new 72x 30x24 reef tank and been looking and storing all your pictures since you started this lovely thread. It is just stunning and I am hoping to have two Bonsai Trees very similar to yours on both ends of the tank. I am also thinking of placing around 3 x 2 feet tall pillars in between two Bonsai Trees. My 15mm, 12mm, 10mm and 8mm Acrylic rods arrived today and now I am a proud owner of 32 acrylic rods to build my pillars and Bonsai trees lol.

I have started on two pillars to start off with so see how it goes and to be honest I was finding it little bit difficult to get the right balance as I don’t want anything topple over. After few adjustments with great help from good grinder I manage to smooth base rock so it sits perfectly. I have also sanded down any rough edges which could cause imbalance when placed on top of each others. I must say it is not easy as it may seem since you have to be very careful not to damage the live rock. The way you have done your tree with such a great balance is just mind blowing and I just love it all.....
I am very lucky since most of live rock has been sitting in my garage and almost dry. I know most of you be saying it’s a dead rock but I am hoping to add around 100kg of fresh live rock from my other tank to kick start the process. All in all I have around 300kg of live rock from which 100kg will be transferred from the old tank.

I have also used Milliput to secure my acrylic rods so live rock sit perfectly in between the drilled holes without any further movement. I have also individually marked each rock before placing and securing it with Milliput or Zip ties. Each rock has a label with number and directional arrows so I would know what goes where....
Here is some of the live rock I have stored in my backyard
Moist and covered under black bin liners....

I hope you don't mind me posting my pics on your thread and I am more than happy to delete of you like.....

Tonyespinoza, I am using a 1/4 hp Artica Titanium Chiller. I like how compact it is, about a size of a computer tower and it is pretty quiet.

Tahiriqbal, I don't mind at all good luck with your aquascape and keep us posted.

Smoovie, Thanks!

here is a teaser pic of my new tank.

thanks for the inspiration ;)

this is a 45gal osaka cube (with rounded corners)
it will have a 15gal sumps and 250w MH + 2x36w actinic

thanks for the compliment!
i love the idea that i can go from one side of the tank to the other without loosing my line of sight. makes for some nice viewing.

reef 2.0 will be much nicer than my first tank. ill post a thread soon documenting the build.

Pics?

Pics?

I can't see any pics! Does anyone have any idea how to fix this. I want to see what all of you are excited about.

This is probably one of the best-looking tanks I have seen!! Wonderful work!!! I'm definitely thinking about a deep, rimless tank now!!

questions: How do you like the coverage of a single Lumenarc reflector over your tank? Seems like you have adequate coverage.

How do you like the lumenarc stealth reflector? Too much light spilling out into the rest of the room, or it's not too bad? The pics looks like it's all directed into the tank.

How do you like the placement of your tunzes in terms of keeping detritus suspended so it gets directed to your overflow?

Once again, keep up the good work!

Thank you, The Lumenarc with a 400w and the bottom of the reflector at 8 inches from the waterline is just enough to give adequate cover for the foot print of the tank without having a large light spill into the room. I am quite pleased with them and my corals don't seem to mind as well.

The placement of the tunze are never ending, but at the moment i like it where it is at. I placed them directly on the back pane facing forward and about midway from the top. I am not bare bottom so i don't worry too much about keeping detritus suspended, but any particles in the water quickly gets to the overflow. The sand gets it's monthly vacuum at water changes.

thanks for the info!

any issues with salt buildup on the lumenarc since it's only 8 inches? How often do you have to wipe them down, if at all?

thanks and keep up the good work!

Zero buildup due to very little to no splashing on the water surface, the only salt buildup i have are around the over flow. I'll wipe the reflectors if i see a dry water spot usually caused by myself.

What are you using to vacuum the sand?

Thanks,
