I have did research on blotched anthias's for quit some time and my hubby surprised me with one today for an early x -mad gift. I acclimated him for two hours and put him into my 125 gallon tank. I haven't seen him all day even with my effort to look for him. Any ideas?

I have never had a blotched but my lyretail a hide in the rocks for a good part of the day, if you just added it it's probably just hiding. Did you quarantine?

No I did not quartine him. I did a two hour acclimation because that was what they recommend. I usually do an hour and a half on all my fish. He only 2" and dived straight for the rocks and I haven't seen him yet. Lol

Who recommends a 2 hr acclimation and why? Even an hour and 1/2 is too long

Really, I have had over two or three fish stores tell me to do an hour and a half acclimation. Due to fish stores running a lot lower salinity than the normal house hold tank. What is your reasoning for thinking that is two long? Being in the hobby for only three years I'm still learning everyday.

I'm sure there are threads about acclimation here on RC ... IMO/E after a short temperature acclimation (sealed shipping bag in tank/sump) and then about 15 minute drip, fish can go right in without problem. If the fish are going into a QT with salinity matched to shipping bag, then no drip is necessary.
The longer the fish has been in shipping bag, the more dangerous/stressful the long drip time can be.

It's probably perched on the underside of a rock. They love to hang out upside down on rocks. Bet you see it tomorrow. One of my favorite fish.

Re acclimation. The short time is needed for shipped fish to avoid ammonia toxicity as the pH drops when the bag is opened. Not a problem for a short drive home from an LFS.
