Here are a few shots with a borrowed 100mm f/2.8 macro on my Canon 5D.

It will be my next purchase. Takes some practice getting use to the short DoF. These were shot at f/8 to f/11.

I'm thinking of getting a different focus screen for my camera to make it easier to manual focus.

Nice pictures. Are you using a tripod? I hear good things about that lens. Its on my short list once I get the XSi.

What do you mean by "different focus screen"? I'm new to DSLRs and don't understand. Thanks.

I thought the same and bought the Ee-s. I, honestly, didn't see much difference between it and the stock screen except that the S is a little darker. The one that I use now is the Ee-d.

Yes, you've got to use a tripod, I had shutter speeds of 1/4 to a full second on some of these shots.

When you look through the view finder a mirror redirects the image from going straight through the lens to the sensor to your eye. But it needs to project the image on something that is exactly the same distance from the lens as your sensor is. This so that they have the same focus. That is a transparent screen called a focus screen. On the 5D that I use it easy to replace some other cameras require your to send it in.

Check-out this wiki it has a diagram that show what I'm trying to say.

I was thinking about a 3rd party split prism, like the model 5 from www.brightscreens.com they can also add grid lines. But it's not cheap compared to the price of a OEM screen.

Do some research. I've heard some horror stories around their screens. Because of the way the AF system works on the 5D, 3rd party screens can throw it off.

I looked at those for a while but got thrown off by all of the bad press that I read. That said, I don't have any actual experience with them so I'm going on what I've read.
