Bottom feeders with crushed coral

I recently set up a 55 gal. aquarium and am in the process of cycling. I realize that manderins and dragonets need mature tanks, but was wondering how they faired with crushed coral instead of sand. The crushed coral is mostly tiny ( 1/8 of an inch, give or take some) with a small amount of bigger pieces. Any thoughts wound be appreciated.

I also have crushed coral and was wondering how a coby would do since they sand sift?

I know the crushed coral bed is filled with live stuff for them to eat, but could they sift through the pieces?

I have seen gobies sift through crushed coral already at the LFS. I have southdown in my tank so my advice is that if you want to go with a sandsifter get heavier sand.... otherwise your corals will look like christmas in Vermont! THe goby in my tank is a brown barred or Dragon Goby.
