Bought a new home...now what?

We just purchased a new home, and we'll be moving in about 5 months. Fortunately, it's only 10 minutes from my current residence.
While that gives me plenty of time to map a strategy, it also brings to reality that my reef/fish tank will have to go, that is...until we figure out where we might keep a tank.
Right now, it doesn't look as if there's a spot in this house, until we finish the basement. (which won't be for at least 2 months after we close on the house)

I have so much life in my tank, and I feel very upset. At best, I would sell off my coral, but find a way to keep my fish and beautiful coraline-covered live rock, until we're ready.

My fish are stunning, and I feel that they're my"pets".

What should I do?

i'd find a way to keep the tank with all it's inhabitants. i'm sure there is a way to transport coral safely. i'm not sure exactly how to do it, but i will bump your thread :)

If you have a local reef club, you may find some people who would hold some of your "pets" while u settle in. Or even host your tank if they are real cool

.....or ask your LFS if you can set up the tank there for 2 months. Try a local reefer first, LFS would be my last option personally.

You can also set up a huge Rubbermaid tub to hold everything while your finishing your basement.

Anthony, how big is the system? I've moved dozens and it's usually not as bad as you'd think. If it's not monster-sized, I'd find a temporary place for it until you get an appropriate spot in the basement ready.

I agree with reelheel, If the tank is not that large(under 100g). I would try to find a temp location until your basement is finished. Even if the location is not that attractive, at least you get to keep your setup. Moving a tank is probably the one of the most stressful processes to go through. On top of it you will be moving the entire contents of your house to another which multiplies stress level. My advice to you is drink plenty of beer! :) j/k

just went thru a move -hardwoods were put in and the tank was originally set up downstairs- lost all coral sdue to move / ignorance/ and just plain caring for the house more than the tank-

I wish that I had let some reef friends take frags or whole colonies

just a thought from a recent home buyer
