Bit the bullet and bought one....now I'm building a canopy for it, but how far to yous guys sit yours up off the water?? My tank is a 40 B (36" wide)

I have a 36 wide with one radion. I had major dark sides even when i raised it. Had to buy two. Posted in here for advice i got none. So i am letting u know one will be dim on 36 wide.

I'd go 9" above the water. If you can hold out and only buy one Ecotech is coming out with a wide angle lense that will cover 36" x 36" area. This would allow a single fixture for a 40b.

A Radion G2 or pro will work well for a 40breeder if raised up. In the near future there will be a wide angle optic offered as an accessory designed for 36x36 and beyond spread at 9" from water line.

Did it come with instructions on hang height? Most people hang theirs at 8-12" above the water. But on a 36" tank you're going to need it at probably 14-18" and pretty high intensity to get coverage.

That is great news Tim and will really help with the increasing number of cube tanks and those with large footprints who have held off on buying LED's because of the need to run extra units to deal with the depth.

Any idea how much the wide angle optic will reduce the par directly below the fixture?

I have 1 gen 2 on a 40 breeder and it works very well - I got it 9 inches above the water - lps at either end of my tank do brilliant - software sucks though ecotech

Place the radion 9 inches off the water line. Don't go too close otherwise it will be caked with salt.

Those are great number for the Radions and very informative, did you take them? if so can you provide more info on the MH, like ballast, bulb, reflector and distance form water, to have a more informed comparison.

Thanks

My tank is 18" wide, 28" deep and 6ft long. What would be the recommended distance to mount a g2? I'll be mounting 3 lights the long way.
