Bought new led light fixture from China.

Great thread everyone. I'm trying to figure out what to do for my 50g (36-18-18) and it seems the S200 would be my best bet. I thought the Cree's would have been a good upgrade, but is it true you can't get UV with Cree? What about violets I've seen posted, are these the same? I see people adding cyan, Tourquise, and yellow/amber too - is there a new "best option" out there besides using 1 green, 1 red per, and 2 UV's along with the 2.5:1 ratio of RB:B per module?

Thanks,

Paul

Edit: the last sentence should be 2.5:1 ratio of blue to white LEDs. Not sure which way to turn, but am very interested in ordering one of these fixtures.

Thanks,

Paul

Also, this is going be hung (I'll buy new hanging bolts) about 8"-12" above the water, no canopy, but I'm considering 120 optics all around (for color blending) to start with and a second set of 90's just in case.

Stej Did you modify your canopy? Lets see some pictures.

Yes and no and will do

Yes I did modify my canopy but not in a way I intended. I removed the lid and sat the light on brackets. 10 inch awl I reckon.

The end plan will be to do something with a part lid in the future

Will get some pics up when tank full. Currently sitting at quarter full and been busy sorting plumbing and power for cabinet. My boy has started to pay an interest and we are finishing swap over next weekend. Will do some picks then.

Have been playing with the settings in the interim. V easy to setup and with whites running at 55% and blues/UV at 75% the fans hardly kick in at all

Will see what it's like when full but at the moment there looks to be a fair amount of front and side light spill with 120 degrees. Have a set of 90's just in case

I have 2 - S200's over my 150 (72x24x18) I went with all 90's. But will be playing with some 120's to get rid of some of the dark spots from the lower fixture being only 6.5" above the water (upper is 9" above). The fixtures are not in the best positions as I forgot about the inline data input cable ports. But you're flying so that won't be an issue. Personally - I'd probably stay with 90's all around since you have the height. But would buy extra 120's - just in case.
Attached is the layout I used, so far I've been very happy with the look - but I bought a bunch of different colors and optics in case I decide to play.

The total cost was about $750 for the 2 fixtures - but send Kevin an email and he will give you an exact quote.

Do they offer cyan or yellow do you know? I've emailed and Skyped Kevin, but he must be out for the weekend. I would only do 1 green and 1 red per module, an maybe a yellow/amber. Also, what about Violet? Any benefits there? Maybe I'll go 90 on the optics and 120 on red/green if I go with them.

Thanks Fuzzy!

Where are all the led zeal-ots? :).

I feel like I'm making myself crazy with this decision. I just bought a 27" maxspect razor and am thinking of ordering one of these too to see which is better. Any thoughts from the group?

I see that the Radions have violet and Amber, by that no one has put these in their setups. Why?

You're welcome. It was a beautiful weekend, hopefully everyone was out enjoying the spring weather.
Personally, I'm partial to a deep blue look for my tank. That's why the extra blues. Also I've been told the reds promote nuisance algae growth. Can't say if that accurate, but I'd rather not take a chance.

Thanks Fuzzy. I understand that 'excessive' red can promote algae growth as they are primarily for plant growth, but that a single red would only serve to bring out red color in fish and coral. Could be wrong, as I'm certainly a LED noob, but if Ecotech is putting red into their units, it can't be all bad.

Thanks Hodge. I just wish I could actually get ahold of the company. I'd like to understand what LED colors and mfg's are available these days.

Make sure you are emailing Kevin. If you are just be patient they have different holidays than us. They have been excellent as far as customer service goes. They even special made me extension cords for the light to power supply

I have a really tall stand and like to keep the power supplies under the stand, the standard cords did not reach, I like the way they are setup it did take some getting used to the buer look. I had 14k mh before and these are bluer.
