bowfront tank on rectangular stand?

i have a 46g bowfront that i want to move to a different stand. the current stand has a number of partitions that make it useless as a place for a sump. the stand it's on right now measures 36" wide, by 13 at the narrowest spot and 18 at the widest. the way it's supported is at hte sides, and at the middle. neither of the supports reach all the way accross the 18" depth. will i have an issue using a rectangular 36x18 tank? this is a glass tank, not acrylic.

thanks.

If I read this correctly you will not have full support and glass, acrylic or the old rubbermaid tote this is not good.

I had a stand for a 20 HIGH and had a 20 Long tank. All I did was make a 3/4 plywood board that fit 1/2 larger than the dimensions of the 20 long and used the 20 high stand more or less as a pedistal. Worked like a charm.

Do not put retangular tank on bowfront with some of the tank overhanging without a support. You're asking for a tank failure.

---->Remember that 50 gallon breeder tank you are considering will weigh in at 500 pounds in water wieght alone!!!

no no - the tank is a bowfront. it's currently on a bowfront stand. i want to move it to a rectangular stand, such that the tank is supported everywhere. so if the tank measures 36 x 13,16 (short side, midsection), it'll sit on a stand that's 36 x 18.

Oh then you're fine outside of the top of the stand showing which would be a cosmetic issue. No worries then.

Just make sure the top of the stand is a thick piece of wood 3/4 at least. I have too a 46 and the space under just plain sucks, can not accommodate a nice size sump.
I got it the moment I read your post , the bow part of the tank would not be sitting on a "supported" part, right?
A good plywood will do it, also try using some Styrofoam under the bottom of the tank to relieve and distribute pressure more evenly.

the chancews of me finding a reciept for waranty purpouses..well lets just say i will win the biggest lotto jack pot in history with the single winning ticket long before i could find my tank reciepts... i had my 175g bowfront on a home made rectangular stand for six months before i moved with no issues
