Brain coral frag skeleton showing..

A week ago i picked this closed brain frag for cheap ftom my LFS as my first coral. Is the skeleton supposed to be showing like this? If not, what do I need to do? One side is starting to develop some algae on it which is concerning me, and I can't find any frags that look like this online to see if its normal.

Yup, thats fine.
It was a larger piece and he fragged it and just didn't clean up the old Skelton/base. Now since it was left like a "peg" you are able to see all the old skeleton/rock. As for the algea I would push it down into the sand bed a little so it is covered. Make sure all the flesh is out though.
