Brain damage?

I've had a red open brain for about a month and it does inflate but usually only for a few hours in the afternoon. It has some skin damage caused by a large vermetid snail (at least I think thats what it was) that was living on it's skeleton. I have removed the snail but will the tissue heal? Should it be inflated more often? Water quality is good and light is PC. I'm also wondering about feeding, I've read about people feeding shrimp but how the heck do you manage to do that? I was told that they will also filter feed and I supplement with phytomax once or twice a week.

Thanks for any info

The only ting I can answer is about feeding. Turn your pumps off and use a turkey baster to suck up some mysis. Just squirt it out slowly on the brain and he will open up wide.

I 2nd that about feeding. Also make sure there is nothing on the rocks around it which at their largest expanded size can touch & damage or irritate it. PCs are usually good for red brains...I've heard of lots of halide problems with them. How is the flow?

I cut the top off a 2-liter Pepsi bottle and use that as a shield to feed my brain. I just place it over the brain and use a baster to squirt some food down to the brain. The shield will keep the flow from blowing the food off and the snails/hermits from stealing it.

Thats a great idea! I'll try it for sure.

Thanks

Here are some pics. The first one you can see the 'thing' I removed (look for the tube) and some of the damage. The second is a shot of the whole brain. Sorry the pics aren't very good. What do you guys think? Will it heal? Can I do anything to help it?
