brain showing skeleton

had this brain in my 65 for a couple months.
have not fed it anything until recently i started
feeding it microvert and phytoplex.
i have it under a 6 bulb tek t5 fixture on the sand bed.
anyone know what could be the problem or if its to late?
also..my brain never extends any tentacles is this one supposed to? all i ever see is a little hole in the middle like a mouth.

Most Brains do not do well under T5. But I have a Brain just like yours that isn't doing so well either.

It is probably starving to death. I feed my red brain pieces of krill, not ripped up pieces but big pieces. It will also eat silversides. Just make the pieces about 2" long and it will be fine. Good luck, that is a nice looking piece.

First: Do you have any other corals that are showing signs of stress? If so, it could be a water quality issue. Or, it may just be that this particular coral is more sensitive to water quality than your other corals. I have a brain that has always been my indicator that things weren't up to par in one aspect or another.

Second question: What fish do you have in the tank? It could be that one of them is using this as a source of food.

For a brain without tentacles, I usually put it near its mouth until it opens up. Then, it's just like a baby bird....stuff it in

thats right murph. After awhile it will start sending out it's tentacles. Mine usually eats a piece of meaty food every couple days.

I trained my brain, I used a "feeding hat". After about a week it would extend its tentacles anout an inch.They are right along the inside of the rim. If your current in your tank is slow enough to lay a peice of meaty food like krill on it I would do that also. It will suck it in like the other guys are saying. Looks cool eating. For a coral. Hey dubbin if a coral that can eat meaty food like a whole piece of krill, and not eat for 2 months it probably is hungry.

At this point, feeding would not hurt. It would not be the first time that such feeding has pulled an open brain from the deep end. But as others have asked, what are your water parameters (numbers, please).
