Brainstorming

I think allot of these are great ideas but I think allot has been misunderstood first we never run a car in a garage without the door open so fumes will be minimal. I have another area I store all of the chemicals like gas paint thinner etc. as far as cooling the room will have its own air conditioner why spend 600 bucks on a chiller when a 150 dollar wall unit will work as well. I think I am just going to keep it simple. my garage is drywall so I will want to match that and keep it smooth. as far as the wrap it will be rapped ina vapor barrier on the inside to keep moisture from entering the insulation. I think simplicity and budget is key I mean yeah I would love another room but I don't think it needs more protection from the garage then my living room has

When the project is done, you want it to match the existing the best yet stay within a budget. Sounds like you have a good plan and a fun project. I run a chiller because my system is in the same room as my pellet stove. Actually the chiller runs in the winter for me. The a/c keeps the tank temp in check during the summer months.

Sounds like a good plan to me and as your probably already aware the paper fixed to insulation is a vapor barrier.

Vapor barrier is actually plastic type sheeting that comes in rolls you basically a staple it over the insulation and use a special red tape to seal it this is normally used on exterior walls and bathrooms.

I have a few hotels that are clients and one gave me a few of those a/c heaters that are used in hotel rooms this will work great for me as it has both heat and a/c built in the really nice thing is I have a 100amp sub panel right in my garage so I plan on three circuits for this one for the a/c heating unit. one for lighting and one for everything else. this way there will multiple gfi circuits so if one trips I dont loose everything

To clarify,

Housewrap aka,Tyvec)-is a water barrier not a vapor barrier. used behind vynil siding to protect plywood sheathing.Vynil siding leaks alot of water just by design. The micro pores are small enough to repel rainwater droplets but large enough to allow gas exchange in case the plywood got wet it would be able to air out.

Insulation with the fixed paper has a thin layer of tar in it.The paper makes it easy to staple to the studs but is a vapor barrier.

Polyethelyne(plastic sheathing, water and vapor barrier both.

-jfl14609,

Just wanted to say your plan sounds great to me and I'd agree in using the plastic sheathing for the added protection. Sounds well planned, good luck with everything.

Update looks like I am not going to go in wall. the room would fit the garage better if it was under 3 foot deep so adding the tank in there would take up too much space so I am getting a 220 gallon that will be on a stand then I will trill a few holes in the wall and keep the sump and equip in the room. Besides insulation and stuff like that. does anyone have any input

so you're going to build a room in the garage for the sump and plumb through the wall? Sweet! You're not buying Gary's old tank and re-siliconing the bottom are you?

so still going on that wall? there are sliding glass doors to the right, right? How long do you get direct sunlight coming in from there? I know my corals and fish LOVE the direct sunlight...but i do worry about summer time.

no we are going in the middle of the room where the tv is that way we will see it more. no I am not buying Gary's old tank would love to but I wouldn't ever trust myself resealing a tank plus the bulkheads are on the wrong side

nah just ordered will prob be a few weeks. i am not rushing this at all just getting a good price so i am getting the tank now still have alott of building to do
