Branching Coralline Algae

Hi all, there is a guy in our local forum that is selling some "branching coraline algae".
It looks pretty cool, but I have never seen this before, has any seen or have any experience of this stuff?

Here is the link to the local forum.

Thanks for any and all advice on this.

A book by Anthony Calfo and Robert Fenner. I read a post on wetwebmedia.com that implies that the book contains a discussion. You might want to e-mail the crew@wetwebmedia.com for more information on branching coralline.

Here's what WWM has to say on its site:

The branched forms of calcareous red algae are mainly members of the Corallinaceae as well; but in a different Subfamily, the Corallinoideae, comprising the jointed (or articulated) corallines. Both groups are worldwide and common in tropical to sub-tropical seas. Most often seen are the genera Corallina & Bossiella.

It's rare, but I've seen it before. Apparently it's pretty east to take care of.

Where have you seen this before Lobster?
Yes it does look like it grows pretty well.

I used to have some. I lost it in an alk accident though. It's no different than any other coralline aside from the growth form.

It's funny because I saw this post this morning and thought it was cool, and then this afternoon I stopped by a LFS in my travels and they had the same stuff. It was pretty cool, but nothing overly special.

I've read that it's a dominant species in many places in Hawaii and can almost become a pest in tanks where parameters are to its liking. The pictures I've seen look like a red coralline version of a Monti cap.

I've never seen the branching kind, that's really cool. My LFS has a piece of scrolling coraline, very pretty.

Yeah I have some of this in one of my tank, scrolling encrusting coraline. Very cool. It actually "plates off the back wall of the aquarium.

I may be getting some of this to check it out.

Saw it in a LFS display, as well as online a few times.
