Branching Duncan

Just picked this up at my LFS. I've never seen one before - is this something that's out there that I just haven't seen yet?

Yeah, they're out there. I think it has a lot to do with the conditions where they're grown. I wish mine grew a little more like that instead of a softball sized mass with heads sticking off of it. It's really pretty but I can't frag it.

Thanks for the reply Shmax. I've had a duncan for several months and it looks nothing like the new one. Here's a pic of the one I've had for a while....

Time time and more time. They will sprout heads when fed, but growth like that takes time I believe. I've had mine for a while as well and it has just recently look like it's going to start branching.

I picked one up yesterday and it has branches but at the ends it looks like your second picture.

Run a search concerning strength of water flow and growth patterns of duncans. I seem to remember reading something that stated that higher flow results in the branching patterns, and low flow in the more softball mass growth pattern... could be wrong but I certainly do recall reading something like this.

Thats what most of mine do. In higher flow they seem to branch out more.

Interesting.
Do you kow how well they survive if you frag them fairly close to the head? (on a not-so-branching type?)
