Branching Hammer

Just a few questions.

What is adequate lighting? (I just placed a 14k 150w mh over the tank to replace the cheap led fixture).

What flow is best for them? (I have 2 of the biocube 250gph pumps in the tank along with the return flow from the waterfall.)

This is in a 34g DSA neo nano.

I have it placed midway in the tank with no direct flow from the powerheads.

Is it ok where it is with this amount of light?

Hammers are pretty flexible when it comes to light, your 150 mh will be great. As for flow they aren't too particular either. Just make sure there is enough there to keep them waving, but not blasting them to the point where there is no extension.

Thank you for the reply. What dosing do you recommend?

If you currently don't have a lot of sps or lps corals, you may not need to dose at all if you are using a good quality salt and doing regular water changes. Are you testing your alk & cal? What are your current levels? Be sure to test before you add anything.

This the first coral in the tank. I completed a 10g water change 6 days before adding it. I am using reef crystals for salt. I have not tested for the above mentioned yet. I will pick up some test kits before I head home Friday from being out of town. I work out of town every week. So dosing and everything will be automated.

I don't dose anything & I'm almost at a year for my candy cane & branching hammer. My hammer was 4 branches when I got it, lost a branch covered to sand by the pistol & a few months ago it's up to 6. I feed them too rotating w/ Rods, Coral Smootie, & Prime Reef about once a week.

The hammer is pretty adaptive to low indirect flow and low->medium light. Anything more and I feel the coral "cowers" or simply does not extend much.
