brand new 6105 issue

earlier tonight i just received my (first) new Tunze 6105. I was all fired up to get it set up and installed but it's not working. I tried each of the 3 jumpers, the red light on the power supply lit up on the 12 and 18v just fine until i got to the 24v. With the 24v in, the light and the prop slightly pulsed never making a full rotation. I took the cover off and checked the shaft and everything seemed to be in working order. Only thing i noticed at all was when i had the cover off, i tried adjusting the red power knob (again testing with all 3 jumpers) and i'd see the propeller slightly "flinch", the best way i could describe it. It maybe flickered a 5th of a turn and then sprung back to it's original position. Never could get it to run at all. I also noticed that when i plugged this into every GFCI outlet in my home there was a slight spark when the plug touched the outlet. None of the other equipment on my tank did this. Home is less than 5 yrs old and never had any electrical issues at all. Not sure at this point if i just need to return it to the online vendor i got it from. I have to say, i ordered this to run along side my MP40 before i decide which way i want to go in my 225g tank and this is rather disheartening for a brand new piece of equipment. any help is greatly appreciated!

Every motor is tested before it ships so I suspect one of two issues.

1) A faulty power supply, which is not a huge deal we can send one out. The MP-40 power supply would run the 6105 so you could just try it on that power supply.

2) The drive unit (propeller assembly) is jammed. Some dust or debris may have gummed it up. The pumps ship a little wet from being tested, they use a pipette and add 5ml of a 20% glycerin solution for a bench run. If some dust, especially from biodegradable peanuts get in the pump, it will gum it up and the motor electronics sense the resistance and shut it down after a slight turn. I would remove the propeller and magnet and rinse the inside of the pump in freshwater as well as the drive unit and then reassemble it.

Thanks Roger, I appreciate the quick response. I take a closer look at the drive unit when i get hom this evening. Never thought to test it with the mp40 power supply. I'll check that out as well.

thanks again!

Roger,
I tried swapping out the power supply with my MP40 and no change, still wouldn't spin. I rinsed and soaked the drive unit and the motor over night in fresh RODI. Tried rinsing out again this morning and still no luck. The only thing i did notice was that when the propeller would flinch like it wanted to spin, the red light on the power supply would also flicker with it. It did this will each of the 3 jumpers. Any thoughts on my next steps would really be appreciated.

thanks
Todd
