Thanks Bob, I was worrying about how clean the sinewave is on this unit, but at this price, I went ahead and jumped on it. I do have a power conditioner that I can use with this so it should be fine

68 dB

68 dB

The dB scale is logarithmic, so it is a bit louder.
But a fantastic price for a 3500 watt Generator, just bought a coffee grinder that cost that much.....
And it will not run my Reef Tank when the power goes out:D

The threshold of hearing is assigned a sound level of 0 decibels (0 dB); A sound which is 10 times more intense is assigned a sound level of 10 dB. A sound which is 100 times more intense is assigned a sound level of 20 db. A sound which is 1000 times more intense is assigned a sound level of 30 db. A sound which is 10000 times more intense is assigned a sound level of 40 db. This scale is based on powers or multiples of 10. If one sound is 10x times more intense than another sound, then it has a sound level which is 10*x more decibels than the less intense sound.

Guy,

So what would the DB be on say a quiet Honda? My thinking was it was incase of an emergency anyway.

Bob

My 2000 watt is 58 dB, and 6 times more money, so if the noise does not bother you....
I won't be able to hear it from my house!

this thing is 68 so its a bit louder. But to compare it fairly, you have to buy the industrial version of the Honda to get this kind of output so it is about the same noise wise

It is not even close, noise wise. Dont care what specs they say their db levels are. Mike has the 4000w Champion genorator, and we use the comparable Honda for work and it is not even close........but as everyone has said, price wise the honda is more than 10 times the price.

There's a mod you can do by changing the muffler out for a small car muffler. But then you change the size of the package. You have a nice small generator with a big a$$ muffler sticking off of it.

like one of those old volkswagon?

Jason, nahhh I don't mind the noise since one side of my house faces the street and that is where it will sits.

Unless you plan to use it on a regular basis. How may times will you actually use it in a year due to power outages?

I just like the idea of spending $125 and making sure in a power outage the tank doesn't die.

Just make sure you put some StaBil fuel stabilizer in the gas.
And put it on your calendar to fire it up once a month and let it run for a while. I run mine for at least a hour with a load on it.

Bought and picked mine up today!!! Couldn't swallow the price of the Honda unit.

OK so now on to the Champion generator mods:beer:
I think the first thing i am going to work on is adding a car muffler to it.

Check this out; Rv.net has a forum Discussing this very issue.

Sounds like building A Box around it is the best way to quiet it down

Picked mine up yesterday. What a deal at under $125.

Jeff how do you attach the muffler? Does it get welded on?

Has anyone fired theirs up yet and heard it run. I'm goint to get some gas and see.

I will probably work on the box first, since that seems to do the most for noise reduction, but yes it would be welded to a flange that bolts on.

OK, so I built the box with 3/4 ply and lined it with 2" compressed foam insulation. I am happy with the results, but needs a few adjustments. I would say it made it about 1/3 quieter. I will throw up some pics tomorrow.
