Brand New Stream 6000 buzzing

Do these things run silent or do they make a buzzing sound? My brand new 6000 is making a buzzing sound and it gets rather annoying when it switches between the low and high RPM's. My tank's plumbing is dead silent and the buzz coming from that Stream is the only thing I hear. The sound reminds me of a electronic hand held massager. Is this normal? Is there a break-in period for these things?

Be sure the bush bearing is in all the way, they sometimes slide out of position in shipping. You can also try prying it out and rotating it 180 degrees. I would give it sometime after you check that, they are noisier for the first 2 weeks as parts wear in. They do make some noise but it shouldn't be audible much beyond a ft from the aquarium.

Roger,

Thanks for the fast response. I will take it apart today and check the bushing. the noise can be heard from 20ft away unfortunately. I think the frequency of the noise makes it more noticable hehe.

Roger,
I rotated the front bushing 180 degrees and let it run over night. That seemed to work perfectly. Thanks!

It should go silent after a little time. Mine buzzed for a couple days, but now I cant hear it all. Durso is all I hear... and I like it.

I have the same problem with the 6200 on my Wavebox. I've tried to rotate the bushing 180 degrees and let it run for several days with no resolution. Could any other part in the assembly cause this problem? The buzzing noise is noticable from 10-20 ft away. Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want to continue to use it if this could harm the pump when a replacement bushing could fix it.

One thing I noticed was when I ran my Stream for the first couple days during the leak testing of my new tank, the tap water in the tank was very cold. After about a week of running in the garage, the tank rose in temp and it seemed to help break the pump in. I ran the pump continuously for 1 straight week set to pulse from 30%-100% and now the Stream is dead silent. Have you tried maybe pulling the 6200 out of the wavebox and run in continuously in a bin or bucket full of water?

Yes, cold water will aggravate noise. I would make sure all parts are firmly pushed in. I can't think of any permanent damage that would come about due to the noise, if the resistance was so high to do this the alarm would sound.
