Breaking down tank with known history of FW's

Hi guys and gals. I don't keep a lot of LPS (mostly SPS) but I do have some. Basically, an open brain (or scoly.. not 100% sure) and a TON of frogspawn and an awesome torch. I also have some acans (one large colony) and several chalices.

Just a few softies, some zoos and a few rics.

I'm breaking down my 2.5 year old tank, and that means the corals need to go else where. The problem is, that I had flatworms (the larger purple kind, NOT the brick red little guys on rocks and glass) a few years back. These flatworms were only on mushrooms, and duncans. Or, that's what I observed. I treated very aggressively multiple times, with Levimasol (I can't remember what form of the spelling is right.. pig dewormer.) The ones I saw, I removed with a baster, and did large waterchanges. I repeated 3 times over the course of nearly a week if I recall. I didn't have the mass exodus. What I had, I saw. They were only on the corals, and the aforementioned corals specifically.

I didn't see any more, for over a year. Then, I started seeing a few here and there. I've removed them as I see them, and haven't seen any in quite a while.

I've never observed one on the rock. I've never observed one on an SPS coral. I've never observed on on an acan or a chalice. But, the few I've found lately, were on frogspawn and torch. And mushrooms.

I have done revive baths, and basically, I do three bowls. First bowl is a revive solution, and I hold the coral skelton and submerge the heads. My goal though, is for the heads not to retract (or if it's on a rock, just submerge the rock) and gently swish. I use a baster and lightly aggitate the water as well. Then, it goes into the next bowl, same deal.. revive and hold, swish, aggitate, then place in a bowl of tank water to rinse for a few minutes before being placed back in the tank.

Now, my current predicament. I am going to be selling off quite a bit of coral. And, I have a 60 gallon that I am transferring my favorites to. It's equally important to me to do everything I can to avoid these FW's travelling to my new tank, or to a fellow reefers tank. Obviously, I'm posting about this publically, and, I'm very active on my local boards, and people know about my battles with these. But I still need to feel like I did everything I could to sell, and keep clean coral.

Isn't there a dip that is specific to flat worms... I seem to recall a Flat worm exit or something? I guess I'd try that along with the revive while moving stuff to the new tank. I'm no expert though.

Praziquantel will work if you can treat over a longer period to eliminate any post-treatment hatch.

I'd recommend quarantining the corals (or treating the entire tank to be broken down) once at the product's advised dosage (skimmerless), waiting 5 days, and then treating once more.

Good Luck!

I agree with the flatworm exit, and have used it in dips. I refuse to do a whole tank treatment with it, because of some of the livestock I keep.

The problem I'm running into with LPS (in addition to these FW's seemingly preferring LPS) is that if you disturb it the flesh retracts into the skeleton, thereby "protecting" the flatworm from exposure to the medications. I've gotten better at it, but there is still lots of room for improvement.

I do plan on setting up a tank similar to a frag tank, but, one in which I plan to dose the coral without moving and disturbing it. The frogspawn is almost 1/4 the size of a 180 though. That's alot of frogspawn.
