Breaking down the tank - Sunday 7/17

This is probably going to shock a lot of people, but Christy and I have decided to empty our tank and take a break from the hobby. There are a few reasons, not the least of which is the trouble we've been having since early this year. We've lost all of our clams (including the giant derasa), most of the fish (including my achilles), our montis, a good number of acros, and most of the remaining sps are struggling. It's been extremely frustrating, and has really taken the fun out of the hobby for us.

We'll start this weekend by clearing out the livestock. We're going to have a sort of open house and fish/coral sale this Sunday. We'd like to invite all of our club friends to stop by and visit, even if you're not looking to buy anything.

Fish:
Naso tang - $40
Yellow tangs - $10 each (2)
Tomini tang - $20
Perc. Clown - $20 (must go with one of her 'nems)

Plenty of healthy corals are still in the tank and need to go (pics to come). Here's a sampling of some of the pieces off the top of my head.
pink toadstool $30.00
yellow fiji leather $30.00
green fungia $50.00
purple/green fungia $50.00
RBTAs $50.00 each (4)
green nepthea $40.00
lg. frogspawn $40.00
hammer $20.00
tangerine rics $50.00
mixed rics $40.00
xenia - cheap/free
purple/white heliofungia - $30.00
small polyp blasto $60.00
large polyp blasto $100.00
acan $100.00

Plus, plenty of others, zoas, etc. I'll also be parting with my remaining acros (including the GARF Bonsai), either as frags or colonies. Stop by, and if you see something you like, we'll make a deal.

Also, if anybody wants some dirt-cheap live rock, I'll let it go for $.33/lb. It's a mixture of FL aquacultured and hirocks. I have close to 350lbs. total. I've had some issues with cyano recently, and some pieces have aiptasia, so cooking/scrubbing will be needed before it goes in someone's tank. That's why I'm giving it away so cheap.

I'm also clearing out my old QT setups - 10g, 55g, and parts I was assembling for a growout tank (39g, w/29g sump). Once the livestock is gone, I'll be breaking up most of my equipment, but I'll post that info separately. If anybody wants to call dibs on anything specific, let me know.

We're planning to be home all day Sunday to allow people to stop by. We're in Plantation, not far from 595. PM for address, phone #, or directions.

I'm sorry to hear about the tank. I was wondering why we hadn't heard from you guys on the boards for a while... I was hoping all was well...

I'll definitely stop by for some acros. I would kill for some of the awesome stuff you've got.

I'll send a PM in a few.

Sorry to here this... you guys have been a huge asset to the club and i hope you will continue to be aswell even though you won't have a tank running for the time being

x2

Your tank has been a definite goal for many of us (me included). Such a clean setup with insane growth.

I wish I could have attended club functions more to have been able to appriciate your input to the club more, but school and work in every county but Broward made it difficult :p

Dunno if it makes you feel better, but I've got like 3-4 frags that I got from you that are really beautifully colored, and hopefully will grow out into nice colonies. Hopefully you'll be able to see them and ID them some day once they're grown out, and I'd love to supply frags of it back when you guys start up a new tank!

The scary side to this is that if it can happen to such dedicated and knowledgeable people, what about the rest of us?

Jeff & Christy, I am very sorry to hear you are leaving the hobby, let me know if there is anything I can help you with the breakdown.
I would like to place dibs on the purple bonsai. I would like to stop by and check the acros, I will call you later.

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation and having to take down your tanks, I know how bad it sucks when it comes down to that, had to break down my system last year and just getting back into the hobby. Wish you the best of luck in the future.

When ever you are available, I would be interested in all the live rock, and if you happen to have any 250w metal halide ballasts, just the ballasts, I would be interested in that, as well as a calcium reactor system rated for atleast 200+ gallons. Pm me with the price on everything. Very interested.

Thanks for your time and again, good luck with everything.

Sorry to see you are getting out of the hobby. If you do not sell it all in one lump. I'd be interested in some of your live rock.
