Breakout box

I just ordered an Apex lite, and will need the box to set up an ATO. When I look up the breakout box it says it is for the aquacontroller 3. Is this the same box for the Apex?
 
correct.. 6/ box..

(the boxes are pretty simple to make, if you're so inclined.. )

I made mine for about $18

incidentally.. you can add more BoB's as you add modules.. (only the additional switches will take more configuring than the first set of 6, plugged into the I/O outlet on the base unit)

the first 6 are plug and play..
 
Did Neptune change their breakout box? The one pictured on the web has white flip connecters where you attach the switches etc. The one I recieved has small screws in leu of the one pictured.
 
Sounds like they made an improvement. There were complaints that the tabs were not very robust and prone to popping out.

Is that the same for water sensors too? I was thinking about 3 float switches and the water sensor in the user guide.

So if I did the 3 float switches and the water sensor then then would leave 2 more spots available for future use?
 
Yup, a float switch is still a switch input. You can however, depending on your design have multiple float switches in series, acting as 1 switch but pure switch inputs it is 1:1.

Same here, screw design on the one I just picked up

I believe that Neptune Sys went to the screw design because it was easier to ensure contact with the grounds on the floats (since they all use a common binding point)...
 
Glad to hear they made a change. The old ones sucked.

KENARGO that's smarts. I've never thought about hooking up two floats to the same port. Makes perfect sense in some situations and it isn't cheap to increase the number of devices the Apex can sense.

would only work if BOTH float switches were in the closed state.. (both open, or either open would result in an open circuit)...
 
Does any one know how the amount of current that gets produced by the break out box when the switch is closed?

True if you wire them in series. If you wire them parallel, then you can do what Ken suggests.
 
The new BOB I got was shipped to the distributor last week from Neptune, it had not been sitting on their shelves at all. SO I expect that all BOB's will now have the new screw setup, unless your seller has had them sitting around for a bit.

What is the purpose of the reserved port on the box?
