Breeding Fish?

Sacramento CA so it's a little far from Las Vegas, I think I will be trying the parent taking care of the fry method on the first batch of fry. I'll just make sure to feed e parents a lot of high quality food first.
I take regular trips to California. I have a girl friend that just moved to Sacramento. Anyhow, you need your mentor (or mentors) to be in your area or can it be done online?
and have you thought of co-culturing as per Wittenrich's book? It adds an interesting dimension to breeding and in your case may increase your chances of success in a seven-month window.

The mentor doesn't have to be local, they are mostly for the school to be able to check the project is legitimate. Thanks for the suggestion, Ill have look into co-culturing and Wittenrich later today.

Forgot to mention that I have ret talbots book on banggais which also has breeding/rearing in there if you want to borrow it. It shouldn't be too different from PJ cardinals

Id like to take a look at it after the next meeting, you can keep the Barry White CD though.

That sounds great! Im having some trouble with the school trying to act like they know science. I would like to try and raise some Banggais regardless of the project.

Ok, I have one right now. Just released yesterday and none came last night. I would have thought we would have got some last night but the male is still holding them.

As a side note, I have noticed the female being territorial a few days before he released and still she is getting even more territorial by the day. Somehow, she knows when our about when these fish should be released. She isn't chasing the larger fish but the chromis and six line wrasseS, she is keeping those fish at bay and they can't come within 12 inches of the male.

I hope this helps to jump start your assignment so all you will have to do is fine two paired fish and hope that they breed. I will keep you informed to the status of them for Saturday.

Now I just have to tell my wife I have given them way for a project. Lol ;)

Lol, looks like a shark.

Dead center. ;)

If you can catch the male (at night by stunning him with a flashlight helps) and get him into a container of tank water he will drop the babies. You can coax him a bit by gently lifting him by his tail as well.

Very cool! I've had some experience with freshwater mouth brooders but I never took the time to try and intervene.

TigeBell, It looks like a helicopter shot of a lagoon. I am glad to see that it is possible, a little less worry with the water chemistry situation up in the air. Keep sharing your progress.

I might have to try this. My only issue is that he hovers towards the bottom of my tank. :(

What was I thinking when I purchased this tank :fun5:

Last night I went out and bought a 10 gallon tank and an air stone from Petco. I already had a heater, Chaeto, 3 lbs live rock, and water. :D

The baby banggai is in that small tank and the picture was taken from above. :)

I will keep you posted for sure. I will be heading to Your Reef after work for a few items and then back home. I am crushing up flake food and putting in a few drops of Reef Nutrition Oyster Feast in hopes that the cardinal fish will eat and survive.

The school wouldn't accept it without a fight (dang English teachers messing with my science), I will be getting scub certified as an alternative. I'd like to raise some bangaiis just for my own experience but I don't have the time and energy that I I want to be able to put into it.
