Breeding Gobion Sp. Gobies?

Man who sold the world
I recently purchased a very interesting little goby, he was on the whole sale list with the regular green coral/clown/gumdrop gobies. He's a solid minty green with red spots, rather than the red striations typical of G. atrangulatus. I was trying to set up a small nano for breeding Gobiodons a while back, and this awesome little fish is the catalyst for me to try again. Any information would be very helpful on breeding these gobies. I know that they often successfully breed in home aquaria, but what would be an ideal setup in a 5~15 gallon setup for them?

They will breed in a very small tank they don't require much space, if the tank is a reef I guess you will be able to achieve the water quality required for it. Get two as small as you can , theyll pair up and breed.

Currently He's in my 2.5G reef, I've got another 2.5 running as a sump, so I've got just over 4G total of water, is that enough? or should I set up another tank for them?

(not that I need any excuse to fire up another reef...)

Theyll be fine I guess if you have corals and stuff your water will be fine, the reason I suggest to small individuals is to reduce the slight aggression when pairing up.If not youll need a bigger tank to keep the submisive one safe.

Well Matt if you see about 40 pairs of neon, greenbanded, clown and other gobies breeding in small shoeboxes with about 35-40 gal. youll have a heart attack:-)

True, I know which system you're talking about, and no, I havent' seen that particular one. I've seen a different one that you may have seen too!

Gobies in shoeboxes is one thing, but gobies in a 2.5 gallon reef, now there's a breeder after my own heart!

I don't. Ed might (but he always seems stingy with the money shots!)

The basic premise is a "system in mini"...using something available cheaply like plastic shoeboxes or heck, one of those toolbox things with those sliding lexan drawers. Rig it all up like you would do any central system, just do it in mini. The one I saw was VERY ingenious but the breeder who built it reported some problems with it (thus it was fallow when I saw it). The issue may be getting enough flow through a system like that. There's also a lot of surface area in relation to the gallon capacity of a setup like that, so heat loss could actually be a factor! Great way to store tiny broodstock like that I suppose.

I bet a really good source of info for doing a setup like that might be the folks who specialize in Freshwater KILLIEFISH! I can't believe I didn't though of that sooner!
