Breeding/Selling Question

I would kind of like to breed some black clownfish and then sell them. How easy are they to breed and how much do you sell them for either to the LFS or others?

Breeding clowns is a FINE art, and its often difficult to break even. I'd check out the breeding forums, lots of valuable info there. But honestly it's a very difficult task(assuming you get ur clowns to lay clutches).

The breeding (( spawning )) part isn't all that hard, but can take time for the pair to start. It took my pink skunk pair over two years to start.

The really hard part comes with raising the fry. Will need a rearing tank, and a means of raising food for them. A good start would be buying Joyce Wilkerson's book.

My Clarkii pair has been spawning for at least 7 years now, and I have never once attempted to raise the fry --- just don't have the time for it.

Agree wtih Todd, breeding isnt the hard part, its the larval rearing.

Prices vary with area and density of product. Check your local markets. Sorry can't be specific.

Its not easy. You could make more money in less time working at McDonalds. You can expect to pay $500+ for a good breeding pair if you can even find them. Then there is still no guarantee they will lay eggs for you. No one is going to talk prices with you here at least.

They (black occys) go for $12-$15 to lfs's around here, and $25-30 to local reefers.

Thank you for answering my question.
