Breeding setup..

I've seen many pictures of your racks of tanks, lots of them are a front and back rail that the "ends" of the tanks sit on, with no rail supporting what would normally be the front and back of the tank (if not being viewed end-on as they usually are in a rack)..

For 10's, 20's and 29's this seems to do fine..

Anybody have experience doing this with a 30 or 40 breeder?

i.e. the rack supports the 18" ends, but not the 36" sides..

I am reconfiguring my fish room now, and trying to get the best layout possible.. It will include 2 x 30g breeders, 4 x 40g breeders and 30 x 10g tanks.. Ceiling is 6' so I gotta be creative..

I may just support the 36" sides, and not go sideways with these tanks so that I can split them in half to house two breeder pairs each..

There are other tanks in there too from the reef system (frag, fuge, etc.) so I cant use the entire area..

Any thoughts on supporting 30 and 40 gallon breeders? (ps. right now they are all on frames that support all four sides, but with the new layout, it might be a PITA to support all 4 sides)

Is this what you are looking for?

These are 20 highs, but you can do it with other sizes. Just remember, it's hard to reach the back of a tank that's wider than about 24".

Not sure I would do that, better to cut some 2x2 or 2x4 pieces and toenail them in for the long sides. It's probably fine but the extra insurance would make me feel better about it. Plus I agree that a rack 36" deep could prove difficult to work in. JMO :)

Yes, you do need more support than just on the two ends. The rack I posted above has 2x4's on both ends with more running between them, and then 1/2" plywood on top of it.
