I was wondring what kind of algea it might be, It looks kinda neon green, its very bright green.

ALSO, I noticed it after I started using phyto-feast from reef nutrition. Could that be why?

Without pictures? Good luck.

One could guess it is new sprouts of hair algae, but depending on the age of the rock, it could be another form of macro.

Do a google search for macro algae.

I only have a little bit right ow, its mainly on my glass.

On the rock its bright green

on the glas its a green, but doesnt look like a very dark green algea like you see in FW tanks. Ill try to get a pic later tonight

It sounds a lot like you are referring to film aglae. It's pretty natural to be heavy in newer tanks. But it never goes away. It should lessen on the rocks as cloraline algea startes to take over, but you will probably be srubbing the glass though the life of the tank.

if it's filamentous, i'ts probably a form of hair algae. my thought is that it might be the startings of coraline. if the tank is fairly new, 0-4 months sometimes coraline will start out a bright green.

its mainly on the glass and every night when I get home from work or right b4 bed, I scrub it with my scrubber. But when I get home every night Its back.... kinda sucks . lol

hmm well it doesnt look like hair Ill look tonight and see maybe let it go for a couple of days.

Diatom algae. I get that every now and then on the glass. Check your nitrates. In my tank over the years ive noticed this when my nitrates are about 12 mg/l. If the nitrates go higher the grren dies and the brown starts to kick in. Also some red slime starts appearing. (Cyano bacteria). Clean your skimmer thoroughly if you havent for awhile.

cleaned the skimmer its only been used for about amonth and a half now... its a new tank, Ive been cleaning my glass, Im gonna change my lighting....

Diatom, I thought that started brown and stayed brown? because Im not getting much brown algea any more its this really bright green stuff.

Ill try to get a pic of it tomorrow....

I just got back from seeing silent hill, it opened today... Its a good movie, game is great, movie was allright, I liked it.

Do you have a refugium? Using macro (I prefer chaetomorpha) reduces nutients for algae in the main tank. I have some that I can spare that will grow pretty fast.

How long has the tank been set up?
Whats the parameters?
What lighting are you using?
What livestock is in this tank?

Definitly post the pics, that would be a great help :D

its about a month and a half old, I know im gonna get some type of algea out breaks but I was just curious what kind this is.

Gresham I talked to you at wmc, I was talking to you and the boss about how I got some pyhto-feast and then I saw this algea show up.

but Like I said I dont think its becuase of that, just timing.

live stock...

1 small yellow tang
1 small clown
1 blue & yellow damsel
1 scooter dragonnet

water params
ammonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates 10
ph 8.2

yeah I have some cheato in there, I got some from a couple of mars members. Just got some friday saturday night. nice big chunk of it.

See how fast it grows,

My guess was 2 months :D I'll hunt down the name of that one, it's escaping me right now :D

I remember speaking to you, I just totally forgot the specifics of your tank. It's a very common algae, and usually is present thru out the life of most tanks in some degree.

Yeah Its a PIA when I come home and have to scrub the glass....

What about lighting Im starting to do just my actinics for about 2 hours starting at 7:30-8:00 AM and then my wife turns on the 10k lights at 10am. I come home from work at 7:15-7:30PM and turn off the 10k's about 8-8:30pm and then total shut down at 10PM.

I use to leave the 10K's on longer then that. But doing what IM doing now seems to help. Concern is of the livestock in my tank, How much do they need hour wise.

Besides the fish I have 3 zoanthid corals, one bubble tip and 2 xenia's?

How much lighting do they need per day?

I had that problem when I was running a 25 gallon because I was using tap water and too much lighting. Hopefully the chaeto will absorb the nutrients and reduce the algae blooms soon
