Brian's 270 Starphire

Photos are stunning Brian  Seems like not too long ago you were stocking with frags, I guess time does fly when you get old. Love to see FTS sometime. All the best...

Thanks Dan! It doesn't seem that long ago, how time flies. I'm still adding frags but just being more selective on what I add. I should have a FTS and a whole lot more for you coming the 1st of April ;).

Beautiful shots, Brian! Love the new pieces.

Thanks Kenny!

You can always send some my way :). I miss my 90 sometimes. Having a bigger tank has its down sides sometimes.

I do still have your purple efflo and aqua delight. The efflo took forever to start growing but it has been taking off lately.

Great tank, are you using any supplemental lighting, or just the 20k radiums. The reason I ask is I just switched from 14k to 20k 400watt radiums and they seem too blue to me, much bluer than yours (maybe they have to burn in longer). I know it may not be totally accurate, but I like the way the light looks on your tank. Did yours burn bluer in the beginning? I see your running them on an E-ballast. I run mine on an HQI magnetic ANSI code 135.

Thanks! I don't run any supplemental lighting. The radiums do the job. The picture are pretty accurate to what the eye sees. As for why yours are bluer, my guess is that it your ballest. The 400 w radium Re a true 400w bulb. My ballest run them at 397 w. The HQI you have is over driving them. Without knowing what ballast you have my guess is your running the bulbs around 450 w.
The 400 w are not meant to be over driven like the 250w radiums are.

agreed... this tank is wonderful... i love the aquascape/island...
Thanks!

Very nice Brian, one of my favorite corals. Unfortunately it was one of my casualties but I've got a frag coming myself. BTW the PPT looks great also.

Thanks Dan! One of my favorite too. It's too bad it grows so slow. That's 4 years of growth for me, starting for a 1" frag . BTW hows your tanks doing?

Nice shots Brian...nothing nicer than healthy, vibrant SPS. As far as my tank, starting to come around but I have a bubble algae issue. IIRC you had an issue a while back...how did you beat it?
