Brian's 270 Starphire

Today I finally figured out why my skimmer has been going crazy. The resonator was plug with 2" of salt creep. So, a note to myself to check this during monthly cleanings :).

Had the pleasure of seeing this tank in person yesterday... it's AWESOME! Great job with everything Brian, love the simplicity. Your little (fat) Blueline was just amazing, I'll have to come back out once he's paired up and under bright tank lights ;) Between seeing your and Scott's tank yesterday your making me itch for some sitcks again! Ahhh!

Wish I could've stayed a bit longer, but alas, 2.5 hour drives suck! Did you guys get slammed with snow this morn? I woke up to 6" and a front door that would barely open :mad2:

Glad you figured out the skimmer issue too, that thing is a beast!

I'm glad you enjoyed the tank. It's not as complexed as Scott's system, but I like to keep it simple. I'm sure the next time you make it out this way the Blueline will be paired and I'll have a few other nipper to look at. I think we need to make a trip your way soon to see that bandit, I would be surprised to see a few sticks in there :).

As for the snow, we have a ton too. Not sure if it 6" but enough. I was a little surprised to find that the resonator on the skimmer was so plugged. It works like the day i got it now.

My system is very simple as well. Tank, sump, skimmer, return, chiller, PHs - that's it. Might even add a carbon/GFO reactor here at some point :eek1:

However if I had more room like Scott...

You guys are welcome anytime! There will be lots more goodies to see here in the next few months, no promises on sticks though! Thread will be up here in the LRT forum once there's more to see as well.

My system is not complicated there is a just a bunch of simple systems making up a large area :)

Thanks again for bringing me the new project as well Austin.

I'm sure I find my way over there soon.... I'll bring you some sticks too :). I'll be waiting for your thread until then.

Nice cap Brian. I really like caps but I took all of mine out cause they were taking up too much room. I'll just enjoy at yours.

Me too Dan. That and I don't have an awesome 270 gallon tank

Thanks Dan, it will most likely be removed down the road, seeing how I only have 270 gals to work with :D.

Brian how are the fishes doing? Are they back in the display yet?

Dan, the fish are doing good. The tank has been ich free for about a month now. I still have a few fish in QT the I plan on added in sometime in April. I figure there's no need to rush things.

Brian,

1. You mentioned earlier in the thread that you dose Prodibio plus vodka to keep phosphates down. Which Prodibio product do you use? Do you still like it?

2. Do you have any pics of how you attached your eggrcrate to the hood to prevent fish jumping out the back? If not, can you describe it?

3. What is the white material that you placed in your sump under your pump?

Thanks.

I was using prodibio, but stopped once I started my UV. i was using Digest and Bioptim at the time, no vodka. I might use digest and vodka once I start again.

The egg create just hangs on a few screws that and screwed to the back of the canopy.

The white is just the bottom painted white with oil based paint. The pump sit on a piece of wood painted with 1/4" rubber on the bottom and the top, to prevent vibration. The bottom of the sump area is also caulked in too. The bottom of the stand is water tight and will hold 4" of water if needed.
