BRIGHT green algae on rocks? Good? Bad?

I have started noticing some BRIGHT green algae on some of my live rock. There isn't any on the sand or glass. Is this good or bad algae. My immediate reaction is that it's probably bad but I really do not know. My pH, nitrate, nitrites, and ammonia all seem to be right where they should be. Any thoughts? Also, I have a batch of bright green bubble algae that looks pretty cool but is it good or bad?

Is is a hard algae? If it's hard to get off, chances are, it's just green coraline. I would get rid of the bubbles algae before it start's to spread. An emerald crab would do the trick.

Well, I just went and poked at the bright algae and it isn't slimy and it doesn't rub off so I guess I will call it hard. I guess this is good algae then.....Yeah!

I'm sorry to hear the bubble algae is bad because it looks kind of neat. It is only in a little spot at the moment.

It spreads like crazy and will take over the tank. If you can, remove the rock it's on and take a hammer and screw driver and just removed the part of the rock it's on if you don't want to get an emerald crab.

so is bubble algae only green? and are the bubbles that come off of cyano considered bubble algae, and if so will the emerald eat that as well? I've already got an emerald on the way (picking it up tomorrow), and my cyano is almost gone except for a couple rocks, but theres big bubbles coming up thru it...well actualy it might not be coming thru the cyano, because iv'e got it on other rocks that havent got cyano...they just sit there on the rock (the bubbles do).

Are you talking about taking a hammer and screw driver to the coraline or just the bubble algae? If you mean the coraline then I am getting to be in serious trouble......! As for the bubble algae, I kind of like the idea of an emerald crab but is there a big nasty downside to them that I would want to avoid???

I don't know about the emerald crab, but I'm for certain that he doesn't mean for you to take any tools to the coraline. You want for the coraline to continue to thrive.

ya he meant for the bubble algae. coraline is good, and you're not gonna get it all even with a hammer and chissle lol.

the emeralds tho...people have mixed luck with them...they're sposed to be cleaning monsters i guess, but they sometimes go for stuff, but i think thats only when they're older/bigger and out of food.

Fishgrl, I have trouble saying this the bright green algae is coraline for sure. Is there anyway you can take a pic of it? I think I might know which algae you are talking about it and it isnt coraline. Just want to make sure you dont get misled.

I have 2 emerald crabs and have had them for 2 months. They have yet to eat any bubble algae. I guess it's hit and miss.

I rock it and pull it out. I was told you don't want to break the bubbles because it can spread the algae.

I was afraid the green may not be good.... I will try to get a picture tonight. What would it be??? Cyano? I will think about the emerald crab. The bubble algae is just in a little spot and it hasn't really spread. It has been there about 3 weeks now.

No, Cyano is red slime...definitely not cyano. I dont really know what kind of algae it is without a pic.
