Brightwell PhosphatR

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand that media gets saturated extremely quick. Like within 24 hours. I'm not trying to sound down but I was looking for a gfo alternative and came across that information on the package itself or from the brightwell site, I can't remember which. Since GFO doesn't need to be replaced all that often yet you still have to buy the regeneration media and phosphatR, it seems to me that the price difference isn't all that much, no?

GFO can be exhausted in a day, too, if the phosphate level is high enough. I don't know how much the resin can adsorb, though, so it might need regeneration more frequently than GFO.

It can be exhausted quickly, yes. The only way to know how long it lasts is to test the effluent flow from the reactor vs the tank water.

I can't afford the time to always do PO4 tests... So I use algae growth as a rough indicator sometimes. It's not an exact science but you know how reefing can be, sometimes you can look at the tank and know what needs working on.

Nice report.
How do you regenerate the media.

Following the instructions on the regeneration salt RegeneratPhor, you mix the salt with hot tap water, pour through the media, then rinse the media. Per Brightwell's recommendation, I use a half-gallon LDPE milk carton, with the bottom cut off, and a hole through the cap. This acts as a funnel, and the media sits in a mesh bag within the funnel. Rinse with the prescribed volume of hot salt solution (depending on how much media you're regenerating), then rinse with twice the volume of RODI.

I've been using GFO to control phosphates. I had rotator cuff surgery in early nov and it was jan before I could do a water change. Nitrates at zero, p04 was at .003ppm before surgery, got up to .35 before water change. Many things died in the tank. Did a 75% water change, that got me to .08 ppm. Changed GFO, no real improvement. Been using phosphatR in last 2 weeks. No regeneration, p04 is now at .005 ppm. This stuff works. Corals are coming back too.
