Brine shrimp in larvae tank

How are you guys keeping your brine shrimp under control? I only had one survive my first attempt(so far) and the shrimp are getting out of control in the larvae tank any tips to take them out easily? He started meta late and I'm just now seeing stripes forming :p , it's now day 14. I think I added shrimp a little to early and I now know I put way to much in the tank with him. I have gotten the ammonia under control, thank goodness, so I'm hoping to have more success with future batches.

Did you try siphoning them out? Have a net at the other end of the hose and feed them to mom and dad. Im sure they'll love 'em

I just let them live in the larvae tank.. They don't hurt anything. I'm not sure of the life cycle but I think mine are carrying eggs. They are waaay bigger than the larvae. Whats really strange though I haven't hatched BBS for this batch. They came in with the rotifers as some got in my rotifer cultures a few months ago..

I also just let them live in the tank, eventually the fish will outgrow and eat any that they didn't get as larvae ;)

I've been watching them too  , but I thought I read somewhere that they could hurt the larvae somehow. Maybe all this reading has fuzzed my memory :eek2: . So you just keep adding the bbs and what they don't eat right away don't worry about ?

The problem is ones that are slightly too big have been said to injure the fish when they try and eat them. I think its a load of crap. Who makes sure they get only the right sized food in the wild? :)

Good point! Thanks. They guys look so cool when they first get (tatted up) :D , white stripes almost have a blue hue to them.

Brine shrimp is not a natural food for clowns. It works for us so that is why we feed it to them.

I know Brine Shrimp aren't (they are brackish) but there is other Zoo plankton in the ocean too big for clowns to eat I'm sure.

How far apart are your batches before you're willing to put two groups in the same tank? Can newly hatched be put in with 16 day old? Whats working for you guys and gals?

When I mix two batch's they are not more than 2 weeks older than the next batch. I usually add 4 week old to 6 week old.

Maybe they stick the fish with their antlers

Actually brine shrimp are the opposite of brackish. They live in saltier water than the sea.

"Artemia can be found in a wide range of water salinities; i.e. from 10 ppt to saturation level. Above 100 ppt no predators or food competitors survive, resulting in a monoculture under natural conditions."

Actually they are both :)
