Bristle worms

Has anyone ever heard of using the stocking with shrimp in it to eliminate these critters when there are to many?

Yes, but as long as there is abundant food sources, they will just keep increasing their population. I would caution against removing too many of them as they are most likely your best clean up crew and could see your water quality diminish should they diminish.
