So the past few days ive been noticing some stress in my tank, and i think i may have found a hitchhiker that got its way into my tank and multiplied...white brittle stars very tiny and all white do these pose a threat or am i just being a little too cautious?

If itsn ot a hitchhiker thats bad i have come across ones that are good for cleaning the junk in the tank as well

Are they brittle stars or asterina stars like these:

Unless you observe them doing something destructive or can solidly link them to a known pest (if you want help attempting that, can you get some good closeup photos?) I wouldn't worry. I've had "nano" sized brittle stars similar to what you're describing in almost every tank I've owned and they've never caused a problem.

I have a few of the "nano" sized white brittle stars in my nano tank and they've never caused any problems. Unless you actually observe them munching on your corals, etc, I'd be willing to say they aren't causing any issues in your tank....

The ones I have now have tiny narrow dark stripes on the arms. They came on a frag from the frag swap (don't remember who) and I was actually happy to see them since they strike me as a good way to add diversity.

I have similar mini-brittle stars. I've had them for a long time, don't seem to do any harm.
