brittle star losing arms

What does this indicate and what does this mean for the general health of the brittle star?

Will it regenerate these lost arms, are are they forever wounded?

Any help would be apprecieated.

Brittle stars lose arms for many reasons, the most common one is something is attacking it. In your tank, hopefully no one is trying to eat it, so as long as it is not being picked on look for other things like water quality and quality and quantity of food. They will regrow limbs as long as enough food is present and whatever was causing the loss to happen is removed.

Awesome, thank you philter4. The body is not wasting away, so I can rule out the water quality. The legs seem nipped away, so I'm going to assume a predator.

Is there a level of leg loss untill the regrowth is irreversible btw?

I wouldn't rule out water quality or starvation yet. The fact that the body is intact means nothing.

As long as they still have part of 3 legs they can regrow the rest. They just have to have enough legs left to be mobile.
