Brittle Star pulling itself apart?

Squeaky

I noticed this morning that my brittle star looked unhappy. I've had him about two weeks and he as just been crawling in and out of my rocks. Later this morning I noticed that he had popped off one of his arms. Now I know that they do this from time to time from stress etc. It looks like it's curling up now and may drop another one though. I don't know if it's a disease or if he is just stressed. I found my new anemone in the same side of the tank as he usually hangs out and near the same rock that was his safe haven until today, so I figured it could be the stress from that.

I have also heard of that starfish disease where their legs basically pull away of their own accord so I am semi-worried but not entirely. Anyone have this happen?

i lost a couple of serpent stars to some sort of wasting disease. like yours, their legs just fell off one by one and the body just sort of went poof. when i noticed this happening, i put them both in my sump thinking that maybe some other inhabitant was bothering them but they still went to serpent star heaven.

i have another brittle star that stretches out to about 14" tip to tip and he's doing fine.

I thought mine died today, it seemed to have split in half.... It was still moving though so I left it and now the two halves are gone. Not sure if it got cut in half by me moving stuff around today or if it split of its own accord. Guess I will find out tomorrow
