Broke 6105 shaft

Seems to not be stripped, the other piece of the shaft is gone buried in the sand somewhere. :(



Do I need an impeller, or just the shaft?

There are two versions, what is shown in this thread is from Nov 2011- today, it has a fixed shaft that is supposed to be permanently part of the motor, it is pressed into the motor. What is shown is intact and would only need to be pressed back in. It seems to be the newer titanium shaft, it is not broken, just pulled out, the knurled end is still present. This will usually happen because calcium build up caused heat, which softened the plastic and then when the prop was pulled out, the shaft came with it. This uses 6105.701, the shaft is not generally available as a spare part but I can get them, but it is technically part of the motor, if what you have will not stay in when pressed in so the top of the shaft is below the top of the hole by about 1-2mm, the motor is damaged and has to be replaced.

The older version, Nov 2008-Nov 2011, is 6105.700, that shaft is removable, it has a blue bushing on either end and spans from the back of the motor to the front cover, this version was louder and was discontinued, but 6105.700 is for this older motor design.

Overall, this is fairly rare, it can happen, especially on the oldest pumps because the shafts on the very first few months of the new version were stainless, stainless can rust where it is covered down in the seat and then loose the attachment. Otherwise, the pump seized or was partially seized and this damaged the shaft attachment.

The end of the shaft appears flush with hole.
 
Doh,
I have the smallest of the tunze powerheads and it's exactly the same design.
I didn't realise that the shaft could come out.
The shaft does only come to the end of the impeller.
