Broken 6060?

arrived home from work at 3:21 a.m. to find my 4 month young Tunze not on. i unpluged, pluged back in. then i tryed a different pump into the socket, it worked. removed the 6060 for possible cleaning. removed the plastic grill, applied a small flathead to the prop. screw and it (prop and shaft) fell out in my hand. the bearings were egg-shaped inside and on the shaft. a small piece of the shaft bearing is inside the pump, along with the magnet. the other half (egg-shaped also) "white" sleeve/bearing is still attached to the prop. shaft and appears to be broken. do i replace the entire pump? or do i try to retrieve the magnet and replace all? i tryed SLIGHT pressure with the mini-screwdriver and couldnt get it (magnet) to release. what to do???

THANX,
JOHN

You just need those pieces, was it ever used on a wavemaker? That is what tends to cause this to happen, you cannot use them on a wavemaker.

$$$!

$$$!

its not WM compatible, it has been on 24-7 untill now. page 52 of the "instructions for use" booklet. quote; (1) "the pump does not operate". (b) "Motor sections, such as bearings or motor block, are defective". so, i spent $153.00 plus shipping to find that if i operate this pump as instructed, its gonna fail in four months? the 6200.50 magnet holder was also purchased with this unit. so, that increases value to over $200.00. I asked a question and all I needed was an answer, did you use it on a wavemaker? Apparently the answer is no. In which case it is covered under warranty and you just need to send it in for repair. I have no way of knowing what caused it to fail without seeing the pump. A foreign object could have caused a piece to brake, it may have been used on a wavemaker, the calcium levels may have been high and caused build up in the pump or it may have a defect, mistakes happen. I don't see the need for the commentary.

sorry, i'll send it back and have it repaired. the "commentary" was to reduce further questions. after 16+ years i believe i'm aware of proper calcium levels. if there is a way something obstructed in the pump, (which it was not) then its a manufacturing defect to allow such obstruction. REEF-ON!

what is the turn-around time for repair? i have only the one 6060 for circulation. i robbed my protien skimmer of the (18mo.) Maxi-Jet 1200 for temporary useage. REEF-ON!

We generally complete a repair within 24 hrs of receipt and return the item by UPS ground.

great! so after i pay shipping twice for one pump. once from Inianapolis, Indiana (Premium Aquatics). now, to Austin Texas and back. so that increases the already $200.00+ invested. UPS ground is 5-7 days each way for appx. $10.00 ea. or $35.00 for next-day air one way. then the equasion (MORE $$$) of the life inside the tank comes into play. REEF-ON!

No, I pay shipping back to you. I am done here, you just seem to want to try your darndest to be difficult. Seeing as for as long as you own this pump, I am your repairman and advisor it may be best to find a better product and sell this one on ebay or in the forums here. My reputation for service stands on its own. I am not asking anything unreasonable, all you have to do is get it to me.

how am i being difficult? im the one who purchased this item in belief of an exellent product. 4 months later and over $200.00 im out of circulation for at least 5-14 days minimum. i just got off the phone with www.marinedepot.com and theyre sending 3 MJ-1200's free 2nd day-air with gaurantee of arrival before 3:00 p.m.
they take care of their customers. bye Tunze! should have stayed with the MJ's afterall. REEF-ON!

instead of selling a used 6060, with magnet, at garage sale price. (e-bay) why dont you offer to buy it back? its only 4 months old! REEF-ON!

Reefnetworth,

I don't see what the issue is here. Roger offered to repair the unit for you and the only cost to you would be shipping him the item. Even with the best quality equipment, sometimes things go wrong. It is standard practice for most companies to require the customer ship the item in for repair when it is under warranty, which Roger offered. Heck, many companies require you to pay the shipping both ways, Roger offered to ship the item back to you at HIS cost.

It seems like you had some expectation for Roger to wave a magic wand and make this all better in an instant. That, IMO, is completely unrealistic. He tried to help you and rather than work with him, you chose to become confrontational.

I have known Roger as a customer of his for many years now. You would be hard pressed to find someone who works as hard as he does to deliver a quality product to the hobby and back it with superior customer service.

Hmmm, seems I remember an incident in the past where you also had an issue with Premium Aquatics, another company that I have known for many years and been a customer of for more than a decade. Once again, this is a company with many, many years of outstanding customer service, yet you seem to have unrealistic expectations whenever you deal with a vendor.

Personally, if I were a vendor, I would refuse to do business with you going forward based on your track record. At some point, you have to wonder, is the problem really with these vendors, that have outstanding customer service records, or is the problem really with you? Let’s see, on one hand, we have two vendors with great customer service track records who go above and beyond to make things right. On the other hand, we have a customer who seems to have a track record of being unhappy no matter what the vendors offer to do for him.

Are you starting to see a pattern here? I do. Reading your posts here, on the thread you started about Premium Aquatics and elsewhere on this board, I really have to wonder what your motivation is? You seem to not want to work with the vendors, just make unrealistic demands in a very rude manner. Based on what I have seen from you, it will be only a matter of time before you have alienated all on-line vendors. Who will you order from then?

reefnetworth take a chill pill? shoot.
Roger seems to be the best of the best. I have just shipped out my tunze stream and am looking to see the problem with it. You really have to calm down things happen and he's more than willing to help you out and fix it. Your catchy Reef-on remarks are extremely inconsiderate and your tone with vendors willing to help you is beyond me. i have no further comment. Just that Roger has the best reputation in the business.

if we look at the first reply from Roger, im understanding he is implying it was used on a wave maker. my reply wasnt hateful or disrespectful in any way. this is the way i communicate. maybe it could be taken that way if you perceive it that way. why did Roger not not offer the return shiping and free repair service, "before" asking if it was used on a wavemaker? im not doubting his promise to fix the equiptment failure. i felt as if i were being accused of something i didnt do. that is why i quoted the instruction pamplet. REEF-ON! is my signature "10-4", and has been at the end of every post/reply for 1166 post/replys. sorry if it was misunderstood also. im not a hateful or mean person, just different dialect it seems.

Respectufully,

Because putting it on a wavemaker negates the warranty and he would not be obligated to repair it if you had done that.

{at the risk of posibly sounding rude. and its not my intention}

i guess if i had put the word "wall" in front of the word "socket" in my post, it may have kept anyone from misunderstanding. once again, sorry, and REEF-ON!
