Broken Euroreef ES5-3

First off, I already sent an email to customercare@marinedepot.com, so my apologies in being redundant. I'm inherantly impatient, and I just want to post this for the rest of RC members to be aware of, and to report any positive or negative experience with Marine Depot for other RC members.

Actually, to be honest, if there was a UPS sponser forum, I would be posing this for them, IN ALL CAPS, as it's really UPS's fault. (We all know what they are infamous for.) I'm very confidant that this problem will be resolved by Marine Depot in most possible timely manner.

I received my package from UPS yesterday. It was at my door when I got home from work, at 10pm, central time. I instinctively inspected the outside of the box for any blemishes, knowing that I chose the free shipping via UPS. There where no visible signs of any damage to the outside. (See photos.)

15 minutes later, when I opened the box, my excitement imediately turned to disgust, as I observed the complete break in the main body of the skimmer, at the base where the drain fitting is sealed to the body.

As previously stated, I am a very impatient person, ( :D ) and am hoping for a very fast replacement. Especially being, that my beloved reef aquarium is running skimmerless untill I receive an undamaged replacement!

Oh yea, as you can see, the styro is also damaged at the base.

I should have added... I've read a few other posts by members that have received broken Euroreefs via Marine Depot. And it seems this problem could be avoided by using a different shipping company, or packaging the manufacture's box in another box with extra packing material.

Here is a quote that a representative from Euroreef sent me, in their sponsor forum:

"Was that box shipped within another box? If not, it should have been. Those boxes are not UPS ship ready. Those skimmers are sold in 4 packs and shipped within another double walled box. "

The manufacture's box was shipped as is, with no other packaging.

UPDATE:

Just spoke with Keith from Marine Depot about one hour ago on the phone. He was very friendly, and I am very pleased with the out come. He told me they will send out a new skimmer today, second day air, at no extra charge, and said they will make sure it gets packaged better this time. I didn't even have to hassle them about sending it out second day... they elected to themselves. This was my main concern, getting the replacement in due time. A++

He said they were told by Euroreef that the manufacturer's packaging is UPS ready. I advised him of my quote above directly from Euroreef, and he said they will read the thread and adjust their shipping practices accordingly. Marine Depot's customer serivce gets 5 stars in my book.

Thanks Keith!
