Broken heater

Wow. Are Marineland Visi-therm heaters in the same boat?

I would buy Eheims but they're too long to fit. Any feedback on Fluval "E" heaters?

(I don't mean to hijack with my questions, but after all these threads I am definitely getting rid of my stealth.)

Sorry about your setback. I wouldn't be surprised if everything is fine though once you bring the temp back up. An early winter power outage a few years ago brought my 120 down into the sixties; didn't lose any coral (did lose a couple fish though).

No this is very bad for my mine. I think all corals are lost except some Zoas and maybe one softie. The anenome is a fighter and he's attached to a new rock in the qt, still looks like crap but I'm hopeful... all fish are ok so far but the Goby is moving much more sand than usual...looks like a snowstorm in there. Fish are still eating very well.
One cleaner shrimp dead this morning though Ive been fooled by molting before. All the other inverts ok so far. But this #%@!#$$ sucks! I'll post some before and after pics soon. Weird how some of these failures kill fish and some don't...

We are hosting terrapins here in Maryland and were provided those stealth pieces of junk. We had them all blow up. I'm sorry for the losses and am glad selfishly that I didn't have one in my reef. Turtle is fine luckily.

Sorry for your loss, Seege.

Sadly, I read somewhere that some part inside the heater are made of copper. Could be a good idea to test for that just in case.

Can you tell me the serial # of your stealth Pro? It's written in white on the tube near the top part (led light) of the heater.

Should be something like 01G031, 01H031 or 01I031.

Thanks, and again sorry for your loss.

Stealth heater kiiled my tank and almost me

Stealth heater kiiled my tank and almost me

It was 4:00 in the morning and I was on my way to a deer hunting trip. I turned on the TV and checked the weather. I dozed off only to awake to a splitting headache and in a lethargic state. I drug myself of the couch to find a stench of burning metal, plastic electric smell. I opened the door to my bedroom and yell at my wife to get out the house, it was on fire and take the dogs and get outside.
I grabbed a fire extinguisher and a flash light; I was scared to turn anything electrical on, I had no idea where the smell was coming from. I ran around the house unplugging everything, running out side for air every 30 seconds or so, the stench was so overpowering you could not breathe.
I could not find the source of the smell and haze in my house. I unplugged my 125 gallon reef tank's protein skimmer pump and then the return. Still the smell was still being produced.
I smelt the water of my tank and was just about floored by the stench. I unplug the heaters and yanked them out and took them outside. I found a large split in one of the Stealth 200 watt heaters and the thing smelled terrible, that burnt metal, plastic electric odor.
I went back inside and opened all the windows in the house turned on my lights in the living room and found the entire tank was dead.
I could list all the coral and fish but the bottom line I lost 10,000 dollars' worth of fish coral and live rock and almost my life form the toxic gas it produced.
Please if you have stealth Heater turn it off and buy another brand, your life could depend on it.

Wow. Its only a short time until someone gets seriously injured by these and sues Marineland, which might be what it takes for them to do anything.

I suggest the Rena's though if anyone is looking for a new heater.

10point- How long ago was this?

I had one break a couple years ago, but luckily it didn't do any harm to my tank.

I'm heaterless now. Good thing I live in southern Louisiana haha
