Broken Pik Stick

I've had a Pik Stick for probably 6 mos, maybe even a little longer, but I only use it about once every 2 weeks. I shake the excess water out when done and leave it stored upright with the tongs down so that it can drain.

I squeezed the trigger today and the whole thing feel apart. It appears that the metal rod that is inside the stick totally rusted apart. I would've thought that this would be made of stainless. I guess not.

Anyone else have a similar problem. I had always thought Tunze was know for their quality. I have 3 of their streams working off of the multicontroller without a glitch. I guess they are better with powered components....

The Pik Stik is made by Pik Stik of California, we don't make it ourselves but I don't know of a better tong on the market despite its flaws. What model do you have, the blue and black unit or the silver and yellow one. The silver and yellow model was discontinued by us for this very reason and we co developed the blue and black unit that eliminates most of the complicated internals and replaces a lot of the metal with plastic. The internals are stainless steel on the yellow and silver unit but it is not a very high grade stainless and it could rust.

I have the blue and black. It has a rod down the middle, might be stainless but it's pretty rusted after limited use. Also the mechanism in the tongs where the rod connects is pretty rusted as well. I had problems earlier with the tongs not opening and was told that it is mostly plastic and fishing line. I didn't see much plastic and there wasn't any fishing line.

I will send a replacement, it might have had some defect from the beginning but the blue ones shouldn't have this problem. It would be a good idea to rinse them after use but they should tolerate salt water and I know there is no better tong we have looked extensively. PM me your address.

Contact Tunze Australia- AquaDepot. Keep in mind that these tongs cannot handle a load of more than 2.2kg and should be rinsed after use with freshwater.
